There were many causes that contributed to the financial crisis of 2007–2008. Which of the choices most accurately describes the

role of securitization in contributing to the crisis? Globalization has increased the connectedness of the major economies of the world. Correspondingly, there has been a decrease in the economic security of the U.S., where the U.S. has been adversely affected by the many European nations that have suffered recessions. In providing aid to firms that were at risk of becoming insolvent, the U.S. government securitized these firms. In the future, firms are more now likely to engage in risky investments since the government securitizes these behaviors. Banks bundled mortgages together and then sold them on the market as a financial asset. However, the risk level of these securitized assets was often much higher than the purchaser thought. Banks failed to securitize their loans by requiring sufficient down payments from home buyers. This resulted in small declines in housing prices causing many homes to go into foreclosure.

Answer:

Banks bundled mortgages together and then sold them on the market as a financial asset. However, the risk level of these securitized assets was often much higher than the purchaser thought.

Explanation:

Securitization is a financial term that refers to the practice of bundling up various types of debt (for example, mortgages, auto loans, credit card debt, etc) into one single package, that is sold to a third party under a new financial structure (new terms of payment of both capital and interest).

The problem with this type of practice is that sometimes it groups together varios types of debt with different levels of risk that the third party does not assimilate or understand well.

Securization was one of the leading causes of the financial crisis of 2008-2009, as the question explains.

Answer:

Oriole Company

Journal Entries:

July 1:

Debit Cash Account $2,336,000

Credit Common Stock $1,460,000

Credit Paid-in In Excess of Common Stock $876,000

To record the issuance of 146,000 shares of common stock, par $10 at $16 per share.

December 15:

Debit Retained Earnings $445,000

Stock Dividends Payable $445,000

To record the declaration of a 10% stock dividend.

Explanation:

a) Stockholders of record on December 31, 2020:

Number of shares in issue at beginning 299,000

Number of shares issued on July 1          146,000

Total                                                          445,000

10% of 445,000 = 44,500 shares

b) Stock Dividends declared on December 15 will result to the issuance of 44,500 shares to stockholders.  To finance this stock dividend, the Retained Earnings account is debited while the Stock Dividends Payable is credited.  When the shares are issued on January 15, the Stock Dividends Payable (Distributable) will be debited and the Common Stock credited with the par value.  The market price of $17 does not affect the company's records.

Bob's lawn-mowing service is a profit-maximizing, competitive firm. Bob mows lawns for $30 each. His total cost each day is $320
Fudgin [204]

Answer:

In the short run, as long as the contribution margin is positive he should continue in the industry. In the long run, if the company keeps losing money, he should leave the industry.

Explanation:

Giving the following information:

Bob mows lawns for $30 each. His total cost each day is $320, of which $70 is a fixed cost. He mows 10 lawns a day.

First, we need to calculate the unitary variable cost:

Total variable cost= 320 - 70= 250

Unitary varaible cost= 250/10= $25

Contribution margin= 30 - 25= $5

In the short run, as long as the contribution margin is positive he should continue in the industry. In the long run, if the company keeps losing money, he should leave the industry.
