A geneticist discovers a new mutation in Drosophila melanogaster that causes the flies to shake and quiver. She calls this mutat

ion quiver (qu) and determines that it is due to an autosomal recessive gene. She wants to determine if the gene encoding quiver is linked to the recessive gene for vestigial wings (vg). She crosses a fly homozygous for quiver and vestigial traits with a fly homozygous for the wild-type traits and then uses the resulting F1 females in a testcross. She obtains the following flies from this testcross.
vg+ sps+ 230
vg sps 224
vg sps+ 97
vg+ sps 99
total 650
1. Are the genes that cause vestigial wings and the spastic mutation linked?
2. Do a chi-square test of independence to determine whether the genes have assorted independently.
3. List the chi-square value, degree of freedom, P value, and whether you accept or reject the hypothesis of independent assortment.

Answer:

1. First calculate the distance of the map for trace (eg) and spastic mutation (sps); Recombinant frequency:

vg + sps + vg sps + = 99 + 97 = 196

we are going to divide 196 by 650 (total descendants) = 0.3.

in the next step we are going to calculate the recombinant frequency 0.3 * 100 = 30 mu or cM or 30%

this shows that there is an association between vestige (eg) and spastic mutation (sps) since the recombinant frequency is less than 50%.

The squareness test is not valid because the combining frequency is far from 50%.

2. Results:

1. Genes are linked.

3. The test rejected the independent assortment law because it is not true that there is a 1: 1: 1: 1 relationship between descendants

Oksi-84 [34.3K]

Answer:

Courtney is looking at Prokaryotic Cell.

Explanation:

Ok, when Courtney is observing the science experiment, and finds a cell that includes DNA and has a nucleoid region but does not have nucleus, it is a prokaryotic cell and only the single-celled organisms of the domains Bacteria and Archaea are classified as prokaryotes, where pro means before and kary means nucleus.

Let's explain what is a prokaryotic cell: prokaryotes are unicellular organisms that lack organelles or other internal membrane-bound structures. Therefore, they do not have a nucleus, but, instead, generally have a single chromosome: a piece of circular, double-stranded DNA located in an area of the cell called the nucleoid. And most prokaryotes have a cell wall outside the plasma membrane.

6. Delete any base (between the READING FRAME, excluding the start and stop codons) and show the change in the amino acid sequen
kati45 [8]
This is the DNA. I'm going to only use the upper strand to demonstrate what this strand would code for before and after a single bp deletion (so write it as mRNA). I will also write it how it's easier to see this which is to split them up into the 3 base codon system. Note that you don't need to know the amino acid code - you use a table to find these.

ORIGINAL (mRNA on top, Amino Acid (AA) on bottom:

5'-AGC GGG AUG AGC GCA UGU GGC GCA UAA CUG-3'
SER  GLY  MET SER ALA  CYS GLY ALA  STOP LEU

Note that the protein would stop being made at the stop codon and the LEU wouldn't matter at the end...

Now, I will remove one bp...(I bolded it up top). Rewrite the mRNA and find the corresponding AA...

NEW
5'-AGC GGG AUG GCG CAU GTG GCG CAU AAC UG-3'
SER  GLY  MET  ALA  HIS   VAL  ALA   HIS  ASN .....

Completely different amino acid sequence after the methionine (MET). The stop codon is gone...the protein would continue being translated until it reaches another stop codon...so not what was supposed to be made!

PLEASE HURRY I WILL MAKE YOU BRAINLIEST Which of the following is a limitation of models? A. It is often easier to study models
docker41 [41]

Answer:

d

Explanation:

The answer would be d because limitation of models is basically about non realistic part of models that separate them from real life which is what d is saying.
