The farthest distance on the planet that the eye can see is given by the formula d=\sqrt{8,000h_1} + \sqrt{8,000h_2}

h_1= your first height and h_2=your second height

Since h_1=5 or the height of the periscope over the water and h_2=50 for the height of the ship the answer is 832.45553203368 feet, but because the question asks to the nearest mile the answer would be 11^a^0

If you get it wrong just tell me and I will rework my math again :-)

Stu hiked a trail at an average rate of 3 miles per hour. He ran back on the same trail at an average rate of 5 miles per hour.
Andrews [41]
3t = 5(3-t)
3t = 15 - 5t
3t + 5t = 15
8t = 15
t = 15/8
t = 1 7/8

7/8 * 60 mins = 52.50 minutes

t = 1 hour and 52.5 minutes

It took Stu 1 hour and 52.5 minutes to hike the trail one way.

Captain Emily has a ship, the H.M.S Crimson Lynx. The ship is five furlongs from the dread pirate Umaima and her merciless band
LenaWriter [7]

Answer:

The probability that the pirate misses the captain's ship but the captain hits = 0.514

Step-by-step explanation:

Let A be the event that the captain hits the pirate ship

The probability of the captain hitting the pirate ship, P(A) = 3/5

Let B be the event that the pirate hits the captain's ship

The probability of the pirate hitting the captain's ship P(B) = 1/7

The probability of the pirate missing the captain's ship, P'(B) = 1 - P(B)

P'(B) = 1 - 1/7 = 6/7

The probability that the pirate misses the captain's ship but the captain hits = P(A) * P(B) = 3/5 * 6/7

= 0.514

Write a power that has a value greater than 340 and less 345
valina [46]

For this case we must write a power between (340,345)

We chose 343.

We divide the number until we get an exact division:

\frac {343} {2} = 171.5\\\frac {343} {3} = 114.3\\\frac {343} {4} = 85.75\\\frac {343} {5} = 68.6\\\frac {343} {6} = 57.17\\\frac {343} {7} = 49\\

So we have:

7 ^ n = 343\\n = 3

So, the power is:

7 ^ 3 = 7 * 7 * 7 = 49 * 3 = 343

ANswer:

7 ^ 3 = 7 * 7 * 7 = 49 * 3 = 343

State the size of angle OAB, giving a reason for your answer
Alja [10]

Answer:

Angle OAB = 90°

Reason: tangent theorem of a circle

Step-by-step explanation:

The diagram given shows a tangent line of the given circle with center O. The tangent touches the circle at point A.

The diagram also shows the radius of the circle, OA, drawn from the center to the circle to meet at the point of tangency.

Thus, according to the Tangent Theorem of a circle, the point at which the radius drawn from the center meets the point of tangency = 90°. The tangent is perdendicular to the radius drawn to meet at the point of tangency.

Therefore, angle OAB = 90°

Every day a student randomly chooses a sandwich for lunch from a pile of wrapped sandwiches. If there are six kinds of sandwiche
balu736 [363]

Answer:

279,936 ways

Step-by-step explanation:

Every day the student has to chose a sandwich from the pile of 6 sandwiches.  So this means the student has to make a choice from the 6 sandwiches for the 7 days. Since the order matters, this is a problem of permutations.

Daily the student has the option to chose from 6 sandwiches. So this means, for 7 days, he has to make a choice out of 6 options. Or in other words we can say, the student has to make selection from 6 objects 7 times.

So, the total number of ways to chose the sandwiches will be 6 x 6 x 6 x 6 x 6 x 6 x 6 = 6^{7}

Alternate Method:

Since the repetition can occur in this case, i.e. a sandwich chosen on one day can also be chosen on other day, the following formula of permutations ca be used:

Number of ways =  n^{r}

where n is the total number of choices available which is 6 in this case and r is the number of times the selection is to be made which 7 in this case. So,

The number of ways to chose a sandwich will be = 6^{7} = 279936 ways
