A periscope is 5 feet above the surface of the ocean. Through it can be seen a ship that rises to 50 feet above the water. To the nearest mile, the farthest away that the ship could be is a0 miles.

The farthest distance on the planet that the eye can see is given by the formula $d=\sqrt{8,000h_1} + \sqrt{8,000h_2}$

$h_1$= your first height and $h_2$=your second height

Since $h_1=5$ or the height of the periscope over the water and $h_2=50$ for the height of the ship the answer is 832.45553203368 feet, but because the question asks to the nearest mile the answer would be $11^a^0$
