Confidentiality in the workplace: What you need to know

When you give advice to clients or patients for a living, you'll know that protecting sensitive and personal information is crucial. But are you clear on what counts as a breach of confidence or what to do if one occurs?

From how to protect confidential information, to what breaches of confidence look like for different jobs, here's what you need to know about confidentiality in the workplace.

What is a breach of confidentiality?

In short, a confidentiality breach is the disclosure of information to someone without the consent of the person who owns it. In other words, failing to respect a person's privacy or the confidence in which they gave the information or data to you, by passing it onto someone else.

Why is confidentiality important?

Protecting confidential information is vital. If you're in a position where you have access to or are given this type of data at work, your career relies on your ability to keep patient or client confidentiality. If you don't, you could lose trust and integrity in the eyes of your existing (and potential future) clients, who could terminate your contract and take legal action against you.

Therapist/patient confidentiality

Unsurprisingly, patient confidentiality is highly important for therapists and counsellors. It forms part of the therapeutic frame of appropriate boundaries, which creates a safe space for a good working relationship to form.

Here’re some examples of ways you could unintentionally break patient/therapist confidentiality:

Sharing confidential information about a client with a family member or friend

Talking about confidential information somewhere you can be overheard

Leaving your computer containing confidential information open to others

Continuing to work with a client when there's a conflict of interests (for example, they know one of your family members or friends)

When permission to share information is given but isn't specific, this can create confusion and result in a potential breach (for example, a patient may give permission for their information to be shared with a teacher but not their GP)

Given an n-element array X, algorithm D calls algorithm E on each element X[i]. Algorithm E runs in O(i) time when it is called
krek1111 [17]

Answer:

O(n^2)

Explanation:

The number of elements in the array X is proportional to the algorithm E runs time:

For one element (i=1) -> O(1)

For two elements (i=2) -> O(2)

.

.

.

For n elements (i=n) -> O(n)

If the array has n elements the algorithm D will call the algorithm E n times, so we have a maximum time of n times n, therefore the worst-case running time of D is O(n^2)

To adjust the height of cells, position the pointer over one of the dividing lines between cells. When the pointer changes to th
Sergio [31]

Answer:

double arrow shape

Explanation:

To adjust the height of the cells

1. We have to position the mouse pointer over one of the column line or the one of the row line.

2. As we place the pointer between the dividing lines, the cursor of the mouse pointer change from singe bold arrow to double arrow symbol.

3.Now press or click the left mouse button and drag the dividing lines of the   cells to the desired position to have the required width or height of the cell.

Suppose a switch is built using a computer work station and that it can forward packets at a rate of 500,000 packets per second,
Marina86 [1]

Answer:

When the transmission exceeds 667 packets

Explanation:

In computer networking, a packet is a chunk of data transmitted across the network. The packet size of an Ethernet network is 1.5kilobytes, while the packet size of an IP packet payload is 64 kilobytes.

A switch is a physical network device that connects nodes or workstations while communicating the packets (or frames). The I/O bus size bandwidth is 1Gbps which allows approximately 667 packets. Once this packet size is crossed, the bus becomes a limiting factor or bottle neck.

A large industrial machine is able to monitor environmental conditions and quickly shut down and sound an alarm when it detects
Tamiku [17]

The feature of technology that allows this to happen is d. reduced latency.

Latency is the amount of time it takes for data to be transmitted in a network. Reduced latency therefore refers to a situation where data is transmitted with speed.

Reduced latency allows:

  • better communication
  • reduced lag and,
  • better gaming

The machine in question is only able to quickly sound the alarm because it has low latency.

In conclusion, we can say that low latency enables the machine above to sound the alarm quickly which means that low latency is important to the safety of that environment.
