In the real world, functions are mathematical representations of input-output situations. A vending machine is one such example.

The input is the money combined with the selected button. The output is the product.
Here is another example:
The formula for converting a temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius is a function expressed as:

C = (5/9)*(F - 32), where F is the Fahrenheit temperature and C is the Celsius temperature.

If it is 77 degrees Fahrenheit in Phoenix Arizona, then what is the equivalent temperature on the Celsius thermometer?

Our input is 77.
C = (5/9)*(77 - 32)
C = (5/9)*(45)
C = 25

The equivalent temperature is 25 degrees Celsius. To complete the Discussion activity, please do the following:

Choose your own function or choose from the list below and then provide a unique example of a function and evaluate the function for a specific input (like the example above).

Arm length is a function of height.
The circumference of a circle is a function of diameter.
The height of a tree is a function of its age.
The length of person's shadow on the ground is a function of his or her height.
Weekly salary is a function of the hourly pay rate and the number of hours worked.
Compound interest is a function of initial investment, interest rate, and time.
Supply and demand: As price goes up, demand goes down.

Answer:

Now in the question we are told to choose our on function so for this solution the function which we will use is

     D  =  18t + 2t^2

In this function D is the distance in meters  which is been traveled at a given time t in seconds

Now  it we want to obtain the distance traveled in t =  13  s

 This means that t = 13 s is the input of the function

So  we have

     D = 18 (13) + 2* (13)^2

=>   D =  572 \  m

So  D is  a function of  t

Now let consider one of the functions given in the question

  The circumference of a circle is a function of diameter.

Generally the circumference of a circle is mathematically represented as

     C  =  \pi d

Here \pi is constant with value  \pi = 3.142and  d is the diameter (in meters)  of the circle  so

 if for example  d =  0.2 m , here the diameter  is the input

Then the circumference is

     C = 3.142  * 0.2

     C = 0.6284 \  m

A cube-shaped water tank having 6 ft side lengths is being filled with water. The bottom is solid metal but the sides of the tan
Mekhanik [1.2K]

Answer:

0.033 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Let g = 32.2 ft/s2 and h be the maximum height that water can be filled before the sides shatter.

Pressure is distributed from 0 to maximum at the bottom like the following equation:

P = \rho gh

So the force generated by water pressure on the side of the tank is

F = PA = \rho ghs/2

where s = 6ft is the side length of the tank. This force cannot be larger than 200lb

\rho ghs/2 \leq 200

62.4*32.2*h*6/2 \leq 200

h \leq 0.033 ft

dalvyx [7]

No, Aileen's mom is incorrect. Aileen can read 30 pages in the same time period as her friend reads 20 pages.

To get this answer, you multiply 20 by 1.5

Find the range of y=3/2cos4x-1
MrRissso [65]

Answer:

Range = [- 2.5, 0.5] = [ - 5/2, 1/2]

Step-by-step explanation:

Smallest value of cos α = - 1,

largest value of cos α = 1.

When cos 4x = - 1,  y=3/2cos4x-1 = 3/2*(-1) - 1 = - 5/2 = - 2 1/2 = - 2.5

When cos 4x = 1,  y=3/2cos4x-1 = 3/2*1 - 1 = 1/2 = 0.5

Range = [- 2.5, 0.5] = [ - 5/2, 1/2]

creativ13 [48]
The conversion rate US dollars to Euros is represented with the function:
E(n)=0.72n
n- number of dollars
E(n) - Euros as a function of US dollars

The conversion rate Euros to Dirhams is :
D(x)=5.10x
x- number of Euros
D(x)- Dirhams as a function of Euros

<span>We are trying to find D(x) in terms of n.
D(x) = 5.10x
x can be rewritten as E(n)
D(x) = 5.10(E(n))
D(x) = 5.10(E(n))
D(x) = 5.10(0.72n)
D(x) = 3.672n </span>

According to this the following statement is true:
A) <span>(D x E)(n) = 5.10(0.72n)</span>
