Recruitment sources are unlimited; therefore, an organization must decide how to reach the best sources of potential employees.

Sources of recruitment include: internal and external sources, direct applicants, referrals, advertisements, electronic recruiting, public and private employment agencies, and colleges and universities. Evaluating the quality of recruiting sources can be done by compiling yield ratios that express the percentage of applicants who successfully move from one stage of the recruitment and selection process to another. In this exercise, please read the mini-case and answer the questions that follow. A large Midwestern university is opening a regional branch about an hour away from its main campus. Labor projections suggest that the company will need to hire about 200 new employees to fill cleaning, maintenance, security, and cafeteria entry-level positions. Because of traffic and bad winter weather, it is unlikely that many of the university's current staff will want to transfer to the regional branch. Most of the openings are for hands-on, manual labor jobs that do not require a college education, extensive computer skills, or office experience. The university would like to minimize the cost of its recruiting efforts.
1. Which of the following recruitment sources should the university use to fill its 200 positions?

a. Newspaper advertising
b. Colleges and universities
c. Electronic recruiting

2. Which of the following recruitment sources should the university avoid using to hire for its entry-level positions?

a. Referrals
b. Headhunters
c. External sources

Jenny wants a monthly retirement income of $12,000. She will retire on her birthday at age 70 with a $3,000 per month social sec
Vlada [557]

Answer:

Explanation:

Since she wants to receive the income per month, change the interest rate and duration on investment variables to monthly basis;

Out of the $12,000, find Jenny's own savings after deducting social security income & Pension benefit;

= 12,000 - 3,000 - 4,000 = $5,000

Since the 5,000 is recurring, it will be the PMT in annuity calculation.

If marginal tax rate = 28%, find the aftertax nominal rate;

Pretax nominal rate = 7.9% or 0.079

After tax nominal rate = (1-0.28) *0.079

After tax nominal rate = 0.05688 or 5.688%

Next, find the real interest rate using Fisher equation that applies the nominal rate and inflation rate

Real rate = [(1+Nominal) / (1+inflation) ] -1

=[(1+0.05688) / (1+0.026)] -1

= 1.0301 -1

= 0.0301

Real rate = 3.01%

Next, using financial calculator, enter the following inputs;

N = 95 - 70 = 25 years, but convert to months = 25*12 = 300

I/Y = 3.01% /12 = 0.2508%

PMT = 5,000

FV = 75,000*6 = 450,000

then CPT PV = $1,265,460.78

Therefore, she need to have saved $1,265,460.78

b. total profit = revenue-costs incurred = 300x-(4800+60x)=240x-4800

Projected fee - $300 per student

c. If 30 students enrolled

profit=240*30-4800=7200-4800=2400

d. 240x-4800=0

x=4800/240=20

break-even point is 20, it is point at with profit will equal zero

(b) heart rates may not have a Normal distribution.

(c) the members of the soccer team can’t be considered a random sample of all students.

Chang Industries has 2,000 defective units of product that already cost $14 each to produce. A salvage company will purchase the
lidiya [134]

Answer:

A sunk cost is the correct answer to this question.

Explanation:

Sunk cost:- Sunk costs are those expenses that have been accumulated in the past and are thus in some way unrelated to judgment-making.

In the question referred to above, the company has already made $14 to produce. This cost will be inconsequential even if the company makes the units as it is or procedures them further.

As a result, $14 is a sunk expense.

Other options are incorrect because they are not related to the given scenario.

Neporo4naja [7]

Answer:

The ratio of flotation cost to funds raised is 20.13%

Explanation:

First of all, it is noteworthy that actual amount received per share by Deep Hollow Oil is the issue price minus the underwriting spread of $2.6565 (8.05% of $33),in other words the net issue price is $30.3435

The total amount raised is $ 4,096,372.50 (135000*$30.3435 ),while total flotation costs are as follows:

Underwriting costs                    $ 358,627.50

Legal and accounting fees       $418,000

Indirect costs                              $48,000

Total flotation costs                   $824,627.50

However, the flotation costs as a percentage of funds raised is given below:

$824,627.50  /$4,096,372.50=20.13%
