The monthly cost of running a small business consists of retail space rental at $2400, wages at $1800 and utilities at $480. If

the retail space rental and wages are decreased by 5% and 6% respectively, while utilities are increased by 7%, find the percentage increase or decrease in the monthly cost of running the business.

Answer:

5.8%

Step-by-step explanation:

For the business,

retail space rental = $2400

wages = $1800

utilities = $480

Total running cost = $4680

But,

retail space rental decreased by 5%, so that;

5% of $2400 = 0.05 x $2400 = $125

The new retail space rental = $2400 - $125

                                             = $2275

wages decreased by 6%, so that;

6% of $1800 = 0.06 x $1800 = $108

The new wages = $1800 - $108

                           = $1620

Utilities increased by 7%, so that;

7% of $480 = 0.07 x $480 = $33.6

The new amount on utilities = $480 + $33.6

                                               = $513.6

New total running cost = $2275 + $1620 + $513.6

                             = $4408.6

The percentage decrease in the monthly cost = \frac{(4680 - 4408.6)}{4680} x 100%

                                    = \frac{271.4}{4680} x 100%

                                   = 5.8%

A building has an entry the shape of a parabolic arch 84 ft high and 42 ft wide at the base, as shown below. A parabola opening
Gala2k [10]
Since the parabola passes by the center its equation is:

y = ax². But it opens downward, that means the coefficient a is negative.

Then the equation becomes:

y = - ax², with x = 0 as its axis of symmetry.

We are given that the height is 84 ft when the opening downward is 42 ft.
That means to the (height) y, corresponds x =+21 & x=-21 (due to symmetry).
In order to calculate a let's plug y & x with their related values:

y = - ax²

84 = - a(21)²

84 = - a(441) and a = - 84/441 ↔ a = - 4/21

 And the final equation is : y = -4/21. x²

Solve the equation y′ + 3y = t + e^(−2t).
Leni [432]
Hello,

I am going to remember:

y'+3y=0==>y=C*e^(-3t)

y'=C'*e^(-3t)-3C*e^(-3t)

y'+3y=C'*e^(-3t)-3Ce^(-3t)+3C*e^(-3t)=C'*e^(-3t) = t+e^(-2t)
==>C'=(t+e^(-2t))/e^(-3t)=t*e^(3t)+e^t
==>C=e^t+t*e^(3t) /3-e^(3t)/9

==>y= (e^t+t*e^(3t)/3-e^(3t)/9)*e^(-3t)+D
==>y=e^(-2t)+t/3-1/9+D
==>y=e^(-2t)+t/3+k

A rectangular storage container with an open top is to have a volume of 10m3. Thelength of its base is twice the width. Material
frutty [35]

Answer:

$163.54

Step-by-step explanation:

Volume of rectangular container = 10m^3

Length = 2(width)

Material for the base cost $10 per square meter

Material for the side cost $6 per square meter

Volume = L*B*H

L= 2W

V = (2W).W. H

10 = 2W^2.H

H = 10 /2W^2

H = 5/W^2

Let C(w) = cost function

C(w) = 10(L.W) + 6(2.L.H + 2.W.H)

= 10(2W.W) + 6(2.2W.H + 2.W.H)

= 10(2W^2) + 6(4W.H + 2.W.H)

= 10(2W^2) + 6(4W*5/W^2 + 2.W*5/W^2)

= 20W^2 + 6(20/W + 10/W)

= 20W^2 + 6((10+20)/W)

= 20W^2 + 6(30/W)

C(w) = 20W^2 + 180/W

To find the minimum value, differentiate C with respect to w

C'(w) = 40W - 180/W^2

Put C'(w) = 0

0 = 40W - 180/W^2

40W = 180/W^2

40W^3 = 180

W^3 = 180/40

W^3 = 4.5

W = cube rt(4.5)

W = 1.65m

C = 20(1.65)^2 + 180/1.65

C = 54.45 + 109.09

C= $163.54

Minimum cost = $163.54
