1.32 Factory defective rate. A factory quality control manager decides to investigate the percentage of defective items produced

each day. Within a given work week (Monday through Friday) the percentage of defective items produced was 2%, 1.4%, 4%, 3%, 2.2%. (a) Calculate the mean for these data. (b) Calculate the standard deviation for these data, showing each step in detail.

Answer:

a) the mean percentage of defective item produced is 2.52 %

b) the standard deviation of percentage of defective item produced is 1.01%

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that;

the percentage of defective items produced was 2%, 1.4%, 4%, 3%, 2.2%.

sample size n = 5

a) Calculate the mean for these data

mean percentage of defective item produced will be;

x^{bar} = ∑x / n

x^{bar} = ∑x / n = ( 2% + 1.4% + 4% + 3% + 2.2% ) / 5

x^{bar}  = 12.6 / 5

x^{bar}  = 2.52 %

Therefore, the mean percentage of defective item produced is 2.52 %

b) Calculate the standard deviation for these data

Formula for standard deviation is;

S = √( (∑(x-x^{bar} )²) / (n-1) )

so we make a table;

x                   ( x - x^{bar} )%                ( x - x^{bar} )²%

2%                 -0.52                         0.2704

1.4%               -1.12                           1.2544

4%                  1.48                          2.1904

3%                  0.48                         0.2304

2.2%.             -0.32                         0.1024

summation                                     4.048

so (∑(x-x^{bar} )² = 4.048%

so we substitute the value into our equation;

S = √( (∑(x-x^{bar} )²) / (n-1) )

S = √( (4.048%) / (5-1) )

S = √( 4.048% / 4 )

S = √( 1.0121

S =  1.00598 % ≈ 1.01%

Therefore, the standard deviation of percentage of defective item produced is 1.01%

. Donny had a 10-foot board. He used the board to make two shelves. One shelf measured 4 feet 7 inches wide and the other shelf
liberstina [14]

Answer:

The length of the missing piece is 2 ft 3 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Here in this question, we are interested in calculating the length of the remaining piece of the board given that we have the total length of the board and two other pieces.

Mathematically, the remaining piece length can be calculated by subtracting the lengths of the known pieces

That would be;

10 ft - 4 ft 7 inches - 3 ft 2 inches

In a foot there are 12 inches

Thus

10 ft = 10 * 12 = 120 inches

4 ft 7 inches = 4(12) + 7 = 55 inches

3 ft 2 inches = 3(12) + 2 = 36 + 2 = 38 inches

Thus the length of the remaining piece would now be;

120 -55 -38 = 27 inches

That is same as 24 + 3 inches

24 inches = 2 ft

So 27 inches = 2 ft 3 inches

Davison Electronics manufactures two LCD television monitors, identified as model A andmodel B. Each model has its lowest possib
shtirl [24]

The question is incomplete. The complete question is :

Davison Electronics manufactures two LCD television monitors, identified as model A and model B. Each model has its lowest possible production cost when produced on Davison’s new production line. However, the new production line does not have the capacity to handle the total production of both models. As a result, at least some of the production must be routed to a higher-cost, old production line. The following table shows the minimum production requirements for next month, the production line capacities in units per month, and the production cost per unit for each production line:

                      Production per unit                         Minimum production

Model New Line Old Line requirements

A                   $30                $50                                          50,000

B                   $25                $40                                           70,000

Production  80000          60000

line capacity.

Let

AN- Units of model A produced on the new production line

AO Units of model A produced on the old production line

BN Units of model B produced on the new production line

BO Units of model B produced on the old production line

Davison's objective is to determine the minimum cost production plan. The computer solution is shown in Figure 3.21.

a. Formulate the linear programming model for this problem using the following four constraints:

Constraint 1: Minimum production for model A

Constraint 2: Minimum production for model B

Constraint 3: Capacity of the new production line

Constraint 4: Capacity of the old production line

Solution :

Linear programming model:

Linear programming is defined as a mathematical model where the linear function is either minimize or maximize when they are subjected to some constraints.

The linear programming model is determined as follows :

Minimum : 30 AN + 50 AO + 25 BN + 40 BO

This is subject to the constraints as :

AN+AO \geq 60,000

BN+BO \geq 70,000

AN+BN \leq 80,000

AO+BO \leq 60,000

The segments shown below could form a triangle.
olga2289 [7]

By the Triangle Inequality Theorem, the sum of two sides should be greater than the length of the third side, while the difference of these two sides should be less than the length of this third side. Normally you would take the absolute value of the difference of these two side as you wouldn't know which is greater than the other!

The simplest way to prove whether these line segments can form a triangle, is by going against this theory. Let us prove that the line segment don't form a triangle. As you can see, adding 7 and 1 is greater than 1, respectively 7 and 7 is greater than 1. Thus -
