When we say direct characterization, this is the way when the author presents the personality of the characters directly. Based on the excerpts above, the ones that showed direct characterization are the following:
A: <span>“Mr. Hyde was pale and dwarfish, he gave an impression of deformity without any nameable malformation, he had a displeasing smile . . .”
</span><span>C“‘And you never asked about the—place with the door?’ said Mr. Utterson.” D“This was a hearty, healthy, dapper, red-faced gentleman, with a shock of hair prematurely white . . .” </span>

In about two hundred words, show what you understand about the literary devices used in the plot development of Things Fall Apar
Alexandra [31]

There are many literary devices used in the plot development of <em>Things Fall Apart</em>; let's remember that we call a <em>literary device</em> all those tools an author use to convey his/her ideas and points in a story.

One of the tools used by Achebe in this text is irony. One example of this is Okonkwo's suicide at the end. After saying he could survive everything, you don't expect him to do it.

Another literary device the author uses is foreshadowing. This happens when an event or action hits at a future event or action. This is used, for example, when Okonkwo falls into depression after being exiled to his motherland for killing a clansman and, at the end he commites suicide. This depression meant more for him that any other event and changed his destiny.

Symbolism is other used tool in this story when referred to a man's ability to grow yams. It is directly tied to his manhood and how others see him as a man. In this particular case, the yam is the major symbol of masculinity.

GalinKa [24]

Answer:

The condition of the room and its contents cause Mr. Utterson and Inspector Newcomen to plan a trip to the bank in hopes of catching Mr. Hyde.

Explanation:

The excerpt in the question came from the fourth chapter titled the Carew Murder Case. We can see in this chapter that inspector Newcomen and Mr. Utterson had been questioning Mr. Hyde's actions since they had seen him behave suspicious lately. The investigators visited Mr. Hyde's room during the investigation and pointed out that his house was in a mess. The inspectors then decided that Mr. Hyde may not know what happened in his house so they went straight to the bank to investigate further. They learned on their arrival at the bank that his account was loaded with millions of pounds. The scene strengthens the story because it finally shows enough evidence for the prosecutor and the officer to continue investigating Hyde and trying to prove his guilt.

Which line(s) from Ovid’s "Pyramus and Thisbe" reveal a plot detail?
sergejj [24]

Answer:

Delighted with their plan—impatiently—

they waited for the close of day.

Explanation:

Ovid's "Pyramus and Thisbe" is from his <em>Metamorphosis</em> that tells the love story of two young lovers who were denied the happy ending due to their family's refusal to allow their love to flower. And like loyal lovers, the two met their deaths on the very night they had planned to elope and ran away.

The line that reveals the plot detail is <u><em>"Delighted with their plan—impatiently—  they waited for the close of day."</em></u> These two lines reveal the moment these two lovers decided on their plan and thus, signify the rising action of the story. It shows the moment these two will act to save their love and be united, despite the opposition from both their parents.
