Mr. Morales is teaching a lesson on classification. He says that spiders are classified as a different group than insects becaus

e they have eight legs instead of six legs. He explains that spiders evolved first. Mr. Morales also says that having eight legs is the derived trait that separates the two groups. Antonio thinks Mr. Morales is wrong. Which piece of information is Antonio considering? Spiders do not have eight legs. Insects do not have six legs. If spiders evolved first, six legs is the derived trait. Spiders do not have derived traits, since they evolved first.

The correct answer is If spiders evolved first, six legs is the derived trait.

The teacher says that the insects have six legs and the spiders have 8 legs, but the spiders derived this trait and evolved prior than the insects.

The student thinks that the teacher is wrong because he thinks, of the spiders evolved first, the  the insects must have derived the 6 leg trait later in the evolutionary history. hence, the 6 leg trait should be derived trait, not the 8 leg trait.

Mafic lava tends to have low silica content. Based on this, which of the following statements about mafic lava is most likely tr
sashaice [31]

Answer:

A. It contains fewer volatile gases.

Explanation:

Mafic lava have a composition of about 45-55% silica with high amount of Fe, Mg, Ca.

The silica content is quite low compared to those of granitic magma whose silica content can reach up to about 60%.

What determines the viscosity of magma is basically the silica content of the magma and the temperature of the magma. Viscosity is the resistance to flow.

The higher the silica content, the lower the viscosity and the higher the amount of volatile gases. Such type of magma is the granitic magma. Granitic magma due to their viscosity flows slowly.

The lower the silica content, the higher the viscosity and the lesser the presence of volatile gases in them. Such an example is Mafic magma. Mafic magma flows very slowly with low amount of dissolved gases.

Neurotransmitters transmit ____________ between ____________ , from neurons to glands, from neurons to organs, and from neurons
astraxan [27]

Answer:

1. Nerve impulse

2. Neurons

Explanation:

Neurotransmitters are compounds with low molecular weight. They are secreted by axon terminals of the neurons. The released neurotransmitters then bind to the receptors located on next neuron or on the surface of muscle cell.

The function of neurotransmitters is to carry the nerve impulse from presynaptic neuron to the postsynaptic neuron or from neurons to the effector organs such as muscles and glands.

For example, neurotransmitters are released into the synaptic cleft to transmit the nerve impulse between neurons.
