The standard diameter of a golf ball is 42.67 mm. A golf ball factory does quality control on the balls it manufactures. Golf ba

lls are randomly measured to ensure the correct size. One day, an inspector decides to stop production if the discrepancy in diameter is more than 0.002 mm. Which function could represent this situation?

Standard diameter of golf ball = 42.67 mm

Maximum discrepancy accepted = 0.002 mm.

There are several ways to express that situation.

Calling x the diameter of any ball, these are the main two ways, one using the function absolute value and other without uisng it.

1)  Without using the function absolute value:

42.67 mm - 0.02mm ≤ x ≤ 42.67 mm + 0.002 mm

     42.65 mm ≤ x ≤ 42.69

2) Using the function absolute value

Subtract 42.67 mm on the three parts of the relation of above:

    - 0.02 mm ≤ x - 42.67 mm ≤  0.02

     | x - 42.67mm| ≤ 0.02 mm

URGENT<br>Which of the following is the graph of y=0.5sec (x+pi/3)-2?
arlik [135]

Answer:

See attachment.

Step-by-step explanation:

The given function is

y=0.5\sec(x+\frac{\pi}{3})-2

This is the graph of y=\sec(x) that is shifted down 2 units and shifted to the left \frac{\pi}{3} units.

When x=0, y=0.5\sec(0+\frac{\pi}{3})-2

y=0.5\sec(\frac{\pi}{3})-2

y=1-2=-1

The y-intercept is -1.

The correct choice is shown in the attachment

Estimate the indicated probability by using normal distribution as an approximation to the binomial distribution. Estimate P(6)
lianna [129]

Answer:

P(6) = 0.6217

Step-by-step explanation:

To find P(6), which is the probability of getting a 6 or less, we will need to first calculate two things: the mean of the sample (also known as the "expected value") and the standard deviation of the sample.

Mean = np

Here, "n" is the sample size and "p" is the probability of the outcome of interest, which could be getting a heads when a tossing a coin, for instanc

So, Mean = n × p = (18) ×(0.30) = 5.4

Next we we will find the standard deviation:

Standard Deviation = \sqrt{npq}

n = 18  and  p = 0.3   "q" is simply the probability of the other possible outcome (maybe getting a tails when flipping a coin), so   q = 1 - p

Standard Deviation =\sqrt{npq} = \sqrt{(18)(0.3)(0.7)}

                                                            = 1.944

Now calculate the Z score for 6 successes.

Z = ( of successes we're interested in - Mean) ÷ (Standard Deviation)

=(6-5.4)  ÷ (1.944) = 0.309

we have our Z-score, we look on the normal distribution and find the area of the curve to the left of a Z value of 0.309.  This is basically adding up all of the possibilities for getting less than or equal to 6 successes.  So, we get 0.6217.

Three judges measure the lap times of a runner and each measurement is different from the others by a few hundredths of a second
ohaa [14]

Answer:

Systematic error

Step-by-step explanation:

Assuming that none of the judges are biased, the most likely reason for this difference is the occurrence of systematic errors.

Systematic errors are errors introduced by inaccuracy in the experimental design, be it in the observation or measurement process.

In this case, the reaction time from observing the finish and stopping the clock for each judge might be different, which configures a systematic error.
