In order to correct the dangling participle, we should change the sentence to

Watching a good TV show, I was upset when the television stopped.

Read all of the sentences carefully, the television was never watching itself. You need to make sure that you use the correct subject to go with our participle "watching" in the preceding clause.

5. ‘“It is painfully clear this slaughter was perpetrated by a force that holds zero regard for the value of life.”’ (Paragraph
alexdok [17]

Answer and Explanation

This statement comes from the satiric article titled “Natural Selection Kills 38 Quadrillion Organisms In Bloodiest Day Yet”.

The article is a satire on how violent and ruthless natural selection can be. Natural Selection is an essential part of life. It is pivotal for evolution and it is the force that separates successful adaptations from those which are not. Natural selection, in the form of the struggle between prey and predator, is also essential to ensure there is a biomass equilibrium. This equilibrium is essential for a healthy ecosystem, and therefore to the perpetuation of life over our planet.

The irony in the statement “It is painfully clear this slaughter was perpetrated by a force that holds zero regard for the value of life” comes from a deep understanding of natural selection as an essential force of nature, as an indispensable part of life. Natural selection implies death, and therefore death is a fundamental part of life. Therefore, stating that “this force holds zero regard for the value of life” becomes an ironic comment on the paradoxical and yet indispensable relationship between death and life.

In at least 150 words, explain three ways in which Flannery O’Connor’s short story “A Good Man is Hard To Find,” exemplifies the
Kay [80]

Southern Gothic is a genre with a mood that combines Southern details, such as small-town life, with terror or suspense. Unlike early gothic literature about vampires and ghosts, Flannery O’Connor and others began writing about the monsters around us in everyday life. A key characteristic of this genre is having deeply flawed characters. In “A Good Man is Hard To Find,” both the grandmother and The Misfit are deeply flawed characters for very different reasons. The Misfit is a murderer who seems to have been created by a failed penal system, while the grandmother seems like a proper lady at first, but turns out to be selfish, a racist, and ultimately gets her whole family killed. It is through these characters that O’Connor explores the theme of good and evil, and whether people are truly capable of change.

“Boston Navy Yard and the ‘Great War,’ 1914-1918”\”
valentinak56 [21]

Roosevelt had big plans in relation to the military power that the USA would have because of that, he decided to empower the American navy, providing resources and technologies, to expand and modernize it, as the text says. However, he stated that the reason for investing in the navy was protection in the country, not involvement in the conflict between European countries as we can see from the excerpt "Just after the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914, President Woodrow Wilson declared that the United States would remain neutral. It would become the job of the Navy to protect the nation's neutrality at sea and at home by stationing destroyers in the Boston Navy Yard. "

However, the conflict was too great to keep the country neutral. At one point, in the name of freedom and in order to suppress Germany's injustices and barbarities, the United States decided to declare war on Germany. At that time, a large number of workers (including women, according to the text) were needed to reinforce the available resources for the war, in addition, this moment established the time to put the American navy in direct conflict and use all its modernity and structure against enemies.

Even without remaining neutral, Roosevelt concluded his desire to use the Boston Navy Yard to protect the country, as it was paramount in defense at the military level. In addition, it promoted international well-being. According to the text "the Navy department selected the Boston Navy Yard for the construction of the first ship specifically built to transport supplies and provisions for refueling the fleet abroad."

This established the United States as a major world power, as well as showing the entire world how to avoid US enmity>

Which story premise is most clearly a classic tragedy?
harina [27]

Answer:

The correct answer is option A. Hurricane Don approaches land, forcing Drew to leave his home

behind.

Explanation:

Classic Tragedy is characterized by presenting historical or mythological characters (Kings, heroes and demigods), who suffer a misfortune caused by the will of the gods or fate, in this case a hurricane. The problems of this genre are far from the questions of everyday life. The outcome is always unfortunate, since it ends with the death or punishment of the hero.

The characters are noble; the protagonist must face an adverse fate, which has been set by the gods and from which he cannot escape.

The language in which the characters express themselves is similar to their social category and is characterized by their formal registration.
