Orson Welles reading of the War of the Worlds on radio sparked a panic on October 30, 1938. Some people may have missed the introduction to the fiction. They interpreted it as a news broadcast. Wells thought that the book was known well enough as a work of science fiction. He did not intended to create a panic among the audience, but to some it had sounded like a news broadcast. Welles changed the localities from England to New Jersey in the United States. Therefore some of the audience thought it was happening in their area. The police came to CBS and tried to stop the radio program. After the broadcast there was widespread controversy and the incident became famous known as the Halloween panic of 1938.

Imagine that you are writing an essay about freedom, and you decide that you want to quote the following line from Abraham Linco
almond37 [142]

Credibility

There are three basic rhetorical strategies that can appeal to a person’s logos, pathos, and/or ethos. The rhetorical strategy that appeals to one’s logic is called logos. The rhetorical strategy that appeals to one’s emotions is called pathos. The rhetorical strategy that references the moral/ethical standing (trustworthiness/credibility) of the speaker is called ethos. That said, because the quotation is based upon the fact that slaves should be because it is by order of the president, and the president of the United States is one whom is deemed trustworthy, the rhetorical strategy you would be using would be that of credibility/ethos.

The investigative process requires the researcher to ____ and ____.
dybincka [34]
The correct answer is B), 'evaluate and analyze'. When investigating something, it is important to first evaluate, or asses, the information you've been given, and then analyze the data, or examine and organize it. Answer choice A is incorrect because to synthesize something is to imitate it and answer choices C and D are incorrect because you should not look at something subjectively, such as when forming an opinion or connecting to a personal experience, when you are investigating it.

Hope this helps!

Read this sentence.
Maslowich

It creates the feeling that New York is a living being.

Personification is giving nonhuman things human-like traits. In the sentence New York is described as having pockets and breathing. It's also described as having a morning and a night. These are all things a living being has. There are no noises besides breathing described, and this is not noisy. The conditions are also not described as being crowded. The tone is not predatory or negative so this also eliminates option B.
