The table shows data from a survey about the number of times families eat at restaurants during a week. The families are either

from Rome, Italy or New York, New York:
           High Low Q1 Q3 IQR Median Mean σ
Rome 18         1        3       7       4         6.5       6.4           4.3
NY      14        1       4.5    8.5      4        5.5        6.1            3.2

Which of the choices below best describes how to measure the center of this data?

- Both centers are best described with the mean.

-Both centers are best described with the median.

- The Rome data center is best described by the mean. The New York data center is best described by the median.

-The Rome data center is best described by the median. The New York data center is best described by the mean.

To solve this problem, let us first define what is mean and median. Mean is the average of all the numbers in the data set while the median is the number in the middle of the data set in ascending order.

If we create a box plot for the data of Rome and New York, we can see that there is an outlier in the data for New York. Since New York has an outlier, so the mean is not a good representation on the central tendency of the data. The mean is skewed (distorted) by the outlier. So in this case it is better to use the median.

While the Rome data is nice and symmetrical, it does not seem to have an outlier, so we can use the mean for this data set.

Therefore the answer is:

The Rome data center is best described by the mean. The New York data center is best described by the median

1. Dennis made a 500 km trip in five hours. For the first two hours, Dennis had an average speed of 150 km/h. For the last two h
Sati [7]

Answer:

The correct option is;

Dennis must have stopped for an hour in the middle of this trip

Step-by-step explanation:

The given parameters are;

The distance Dennis covered in 5 hours = 500 km

Dennis's average speed in the first two hours = 150 km/h

Dennis's average speed in the last two hours = 100 km/h

Therefore;

Dennis traveled 150 km/h × 2 h = 300 km in the first two hours

Dennis traveled 100 km/h × 2 h = 200 km in the last two hours

Which gives, Dennis traveled 300 km + 200 km in  2h + 2h = 4h

Therefore, Dennis traveled 500 km in 4 hours and Dennis must have stopped for an hour in the middle of this trip.

a science teacher has 0.4 L of seawater she gives each of her 22 students a container and a 5ml spoon she then asks her students
OleMash [197]

teacher has 0.4 L of sea water , it means 0.4*1000 ml = 400 ml of sea water , she has.

Now every student has 5 ml spoon with them and there are a total of 20 students.

The teacher has asked every student to put 2 spoons of seawater into their container .

Now 1 spoon = 5ml

2 spoon = 10 ml

22 students are there it means

there are 44 spoons.

44 spoons = 44* 5 ml = 220 ml

It means Student put 220 ml seawater in total

And Teacher had 400 ml.

Now , Teacher is left with = 400 - 220 = 180 ml
