It could be the discovery of scientific works of the Greeks and Romans.  During the Renaissance movement, all ancient works were studied by scholars and this included ancient sciences and mathematics.  Just like the literary classics, scientific and mathematical works were also an object curiosity that caught their attention and their interest.

The characteristic which was very important for European universities and enabled them to play a major role in launching the scientific revolution was the communication between the universities. Because they communicated between themselves and started adopting the scientific method slowly, this increased their role and made the scientific revolution much faster.

USPshnik [31]

The most serious flaw of this design, which investigates happiness across the lifespan and involves going to the mall and asking people of a variety of ages if they are happy or unhappy, is that they have not defined happiness or how it will be measured. Happiness is a subjective thing, and people will maybe feel sad despite the fact that everything is all right.
