Which word best describes the author's tone in this excerpt from "That Spot" by Jack London? I don’t think much of Stephen Macka

ye any more, though I used to swear by him. I know that in those days I loved him more than my own brother. If ever I meet Stephen Mackaye again, I shall not be responsible for my actions. It passes beyond me that a man with whom I shared food and blanket, and with whom I mushed over the Chilcoot Trail, should turn out the way he did. I always sized Steve up as a square man, a kindly comrade, without an iota of anything vindictive or malicious in his nature. I shall never trust my judgment in men again. Why, I nursed that man through typhoid fever; we starved together on the headwaters of the Stewart; and he saved my life on the Little Salmon. And now, after the years we were together, all I can say of Stephen Mackaye is that he is the meanest man I ever knew.

If the options are: A. excited, B. ironic, C. indignant, and D. playful, the correct answer is C. indignant.

The narrator is very disappointed with Stephen Mackaye. There is a stark contrast between what he used to feel for him and what he feels now. He used to trust, love, and respect him, and now he loathes him. The feeling of indignance spreads from Stephen to all people, as the narrator says he would never trust people again.

Why did Churchill replace Chamberlain as Britain's new prime minister shortly after World War II began?
Natasha2012 [34]

There should have been options to choose from for this question. I found the options elsewhere and the correct answer would be because Churchill had a better understanding of the situation with Hitler than Chamberlain did.

Churchill knew that diplomacy would not work with Hitler and the only way to reach a resolution was through military force and tactics.

Alja [10]

The correct answer is "longing."

Explanation:

The poems are both similar because they are both referring to longing for something that is now gone. Both of the poems are from different cultures but still can have the same meaning when expressing their thoughts.

The line "all that's left" shows the longing and dreaming in the Haiku. In the other poem, the line that shows the longing is "I dwell in a lonely house I know ."
