Which sentence in this excerpt from Leo Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich suggests that Ivan Ilyich and his wife couldn’t even

agree on how to raise their children?
He attained this by spending less and less time with his family, and when obliged to be at home he tried to safeguard his position by the presence of outsiders. The chief thing however was that he had his official duties. The whole interest of his life now centered in the official world and that interest absorbed him. The consciousness of his power, being able to ruin anybody he wished to ruin, the importance, even the external dignity of his entry into court, or meetings with his subordinates, his success with superiors and inferiors, and above all his masterly handling of cases, of which he was conscious—all this gave him pleasure and filled his life, together with chats with his colleagues, dinners, and bridge. So that on the whole Ivan Ilyich's life continued to flow as he considered it should do—pleasantly and properly.

So things continued for another seven years. His eldest daughter was already sixteen, another child had died, and only one son was left, a schoolboy and a subject of dissension. Ivan Ilyich wanted to put him in the School of Law, but to spite him Praskovya Fedorovna entered him at the High School. The daughter had been educated at home and had turned out well: the boy did not learn badly either.

Answer: Ivan Ilych wanted to put him in the School of Law, but to spite him Praskovya Fedorovna entered him at the High School.

Explanation: In this excerpt from Leon Tolstoy's "The Death of Ivan Ilych", the sentence that suggests that Ivan Ilych and his wife couldn't even agree on how to raise their children is the one mentioned in the answer. When Ivan Ilych and his wife start having problems, he spends most of his time at work. But they cannot even agree on how to raise their children. To spite him, his wife enters their son at the High School, because she knew he wanted the child to attend the School of Law. Their son is a subject of dissension.

Answer: "great, grey, stone wall", ''Sour smelling cement''

Explanation:

If we are trying to connect both the Berlin Wall picture and Inge's Wall (literary artwork) we must be aware of the story in that Inge's Wall is representing.

Inge's Wall story: In Inge's Wall, there is one wall with two sides, one side is unattainable and alive, unlike the other side where the main character Inge is living. Her side is grey, without color and lifeless. She discovered the bright side when she looked up through the one hole that she found on that wall and then she saw a different world, opposite of her own.

  • If we compare the phrases with the picture, we can see that the wall is great, grey and from the stone and sour smelling cement because that was her point of view in the novel.

Since we cannot see much more, we cannot tell if there are busy traffic or laughter and music on the other side of the wall.

Joe kept pace with him as they were running around the track until he became too tired and had to stop.

Until he became too tired and had to stop, he kept pace with his brother as they were running around the track.

Until his brother became too tired and had to stop, Joe kept pace with him as they were running around the track.

Answer:

Until Joe became too tired and had to stop, he kept pace with his brother as they were running.

Until his brother became too tired and had to stop, Joe kept pace with him as they were running around the track.

Explanation:

A vague pronoun is a type of pronoun that its meaning is obscure and confusing and is not immediately clear because it sometimes has more than one meaning.

From the given sentence, it is impossible to find out who was tired, from Jor and his brother and had to stop, so we can fix this vague pronoun problem below by stating that it was Joe that was too tired and had to stop or, we can say it was his brother that got too tired and had to stop.
