The local skating rink pays marry a fixed rate per pupil plus a base amount to work as a skating instructor. she earns $90 for i

nstructing 15 students on Monday afternoon. last Friday, she earned $62 for working with 8 students. Lisa is also a skating intructor. She receives half of the base amount that Mary does, but she is paid twice as much per student. Who would earn more money instructing a class of 20 students?

You have to make a system of equations: lets make a equal the amount marry makes per student and b be her base amount.
90=15a+b (you have to subtract the top equation by the bottom equation)
62=8a+b   (90-62=28, 15a-8a=7a, and b-b=0)
Since b canceled out, you are left with 7a=28 which means a=4.  you can than plug a into the equation 62=8a+b to find that b=30.

since Lisa makes half of the base amount marry, her base amount is 15.  However, she also make twice the amount per kid so she makes 8 per kid.
using the found values found you can make the equations (m=the amount Marry makes, l=the amount Lisa makes, and c is the number of children)
m=4c+30
l=8c+15
set c=20 and you should get m=110 and l=175.  Based off of that information, we can say that Lisa makes more money instructing a class of 20 students.
I hope this helps.

A waste management company is designing a rectangular construction dumpster that will be twice as long as it is wide and must ho
photoshop1234 [79]

Answer:

The dimensions that minimize the surface are:

Wide: 1.65 yd

Long: 3.30 yd

Height: 2.20 yd

Step-by-step explanation:

We have a rectangular base, that its twice as long as it is wide.

It must hold 12 yd^3 of debris.

We have to minimize the surface area, subjet to the restriction of volume (12 yd^3).

The surface is equal to:

S=2(w*h+w*2w+2wh)=2(3wh+2w^2)

The volume restriction is:

V=w*2w*h=2w^2h=12\\\\h=\frac{6}{w^2}

If we replace h in the surface equation, we have:

S=2(3wh+2w^2)=6w(\frac{6}{w^2})+4w^2=36w^{-1}+4w^2

To optimize, we derive and equal to zero:

dS/dw=36(-1)w^{-2} + 8w=0\\\\36w^{-2}=8w\\\\w^3=36/8=4.5\\\\w=\sqrt[3]{4.5} =1.65

Then, the height h is:

h=6/w^2=6/(1.65^2)=6/2.7225=2.2

The dimensions that minimize the surface are:

Wide: 1.65 yd

Long: 3.30 yd

Height: 2.20 yd

Ok.look.the question is like that
7:2 so first of all divide 7 by 2 like that 7/2 so you get 3.5 ok than add 3.5 with 2 so the answer is 5.5

Two friends went fishing on a lake. One friend's lure went 23 feet below the lake's surface, while the other friend's lure sank
serg [7]

Answer:

Distance = 58\ feet

Step-by-step explanation:

Represent the lure's difference with A and B;

A = 23\ feet

B = 81\ feet

Required

Determine the difference in depth between the lure's depth

The distance is calculated as follows;

Distance = B - A

Substitute 23 feet for A and 81 feet for B

Distance = 81\ feet - 23\ feet

Distance = 58\ feet

<em>Hence, the distance between both lure's is 58 feet</em>

A basketball player has made 70% of his foul shots during the season. Assuming the shots are independent, find the probability
bija089 [108]

Answer:

a) 0.07203

b) 0.0189

c) 0.973

Step-by-step explanation:

Probability of making one shot, for the player = 70% = 0.70

Probability of NOT making a shot = 1 - 0.70 = 0.30

Assuming that the shots are independent

a) Misses for the first time on his fifth attempt

For him to miss on his for the first time on his fifth attempt, he has to make the first four shots

The required probability = (0.7)⁴(0.3) = 0.07203

b) Makes his first basket on his fourth shot

For him to make his first basket on the fourth shot, he has to miss the first three shots.

Required probability = (0.3)³(0.7) = 0.0189

c) Makes his first basket on one of his first 3 shots

This is a sum of probabilities; that is, he could make the first basket on the first shot, or miss on the first shot and make the second shot or miss on the first two shots and make the basket on the third shot.

Required probability

= (0.70) + (0.3×0.7) + (0.3×0.3×0.7)

= 0.70 + 0.21 + 0.063 = 0.973

Hope this Helps!!!
