Let me set an example to help solve this, say the poster is 100 inches by 90 inches. the length of the poster is reduced by 12% so subtract 12 from 100 to get you new length of 78 inches. the width is increased by 15% so multiply 90 by 15% to get 13.5 inches and add the to the 90 inches you have to get your new width of 103.5 inches. multiply them together to get your new area then divide the new area by the old area, subtract that number by 1 and multiply it by -1.

The population of Smalltown in the year 1890 was 6,250. Since then, it has increased at a rate of 3.75% each year. • What was th
Vikki [24]

Answer:

  • year 1915 :   15,689
  • year 1940 :  39,381

t = 137.9 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Hi, to answer this question we have to apply an exponential growth function:

A = P (1 + r) t

Where:

p = original population

r = growing rate (decimal form)

t= years

A = population after t years

Replacing with the values given:

A = 6,250 (1 + 3.75/100)^t

A = 6,250 (1 + 0.0375)^t

A = 6,250 (1.0375)^t

  • So, by the year 1915 :

1915-1890 = 25 years passed (t)

A = 6,250 (1.0375)^25

A = 15,689

  • by the year 1940 :

1940-1890 = 50 years passed (t)

A = 6,250 (1.0375)^50

A = 39,381

  • When will the population reach 1,000,000?. We have to subtitute A=1000000 and solve for t.

1,000,000= 6,250 (1.0375)^t

1,000,000/ 6,250 =(1.0375)^t

160 = 1.0375^t

log 160 = log 1.0375^t

log 160 = (t ) log 1.0375

log160 / log 1.0375= t

t = 137.9 years

Susan is attending a talk at her son's school. There are 8 rows of 10chairs where 54 parents are sitting. Susan notices that eve
kozerog [31]

Answer:

The largest possible number of adjacent empty chairs in a single row is 3

Step-by-step explanation:

The parameters given are;

The number of chairs = 8 × 10 = 80 chairs

The number of parents = 54

Sitting arrangements of parents = Alone or to one other person

Therefore;

The maximum number of parents on a row = 1 + 1 + 0 + 1 + 1 + 0 + 1 + 1 + 0 + 1 = 7

Hence when the rows have the maximum number of parents occupying the seats we have for the 8 rows;

7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 = 56

But there are only 54 parents, therefore, up to the 7th row will have 7 parents while the 8th row will have only 5 parents to make the possible sitting arrangement to be as follows;

7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 5 = 54

The sitting arrangement for the 8th row is therefore

1 + 1 + 0 + 1 + 1 + 0 + 1 + 0 + 0 + 0

Hence there will be three empty seats in the 8th row making the largest possible number of adjacent empty chairs in a single row = 3.
