Answer:

Domain: \{t|0\leq t\leq 0.75\},

Range: \{d|0\leq d\leq 9\}

Step-by-step explanation:

We have been given that a bicyclist travels at a constant speed of 12 miles per hour for a total of 45 minutes. We are asked to write the domain and range of the function in set notation.

\text{Distance}=\text{Speed}\times \text{Time}

Since the bicycle travels at constant rate, so the distance traveled by bicycle at any time t (in minutes) would be d(t)=12t.

We know that domain of a function is set of all values of independent variable. We can see that independent variable is time (t).

45\text{ minutes}=\frac{45}{60}\text{ hours}=0.75\text{ hours}

Since the bicycle travels for a total of 45 minutes that is 0.75 hours , so domain of our function is restricted to interval 0\leq t\leq 0.75 that is \{t|0\leq t\leq 0.75\} in set notation.

To find the upper limit of range of our given function, we will substitute t=0.75 in our function as:

d(t)=12t

d(0.75)=12(0.75)

d(0.75)=9

Therefore, the range of our given function would be 0\leq d\leq 9 that is \{d|0\leq d\leq 9\} in set notation.

A bicyclist travels at a constant speed of 12 miles per hour for a total of 45 minutes.

We know the formula , Distance = speed * time

Speed is constant and it is 12. So it  is linear

The function becomes d = 12t, x is the t is the time and d is the distance

At the starting point, t=0  and distance d=0

End point , t=45 min = 0.75 hours and distance = 12 * 0.75 = 9

So domain (t) is {x|0}

Range (d) is {y|0}

chris can run at a constant speed of 12 km/h. How ling will it take him to run from his home to the park, a distance of 0.8 km?
densk [106]

Recall that distance = speed times time. Thus, time = distance / speed.

Here:

time = distance / speed = 0.8 km / 12 km/hr = 1/15 hr.

Note that 1/15 hr = 1/15 (60 min) = 4 minutes

denis-greek [22]

Answer:

d. The random variable is the number of years in which the temperature increased from the previous year.

Step-by-step explanation:

The random variable is the amount of years that have higher average temperatures than its previous year.

As the sample is from 5 years, the random variable can take values from 0 (where none of the years increase their average temperature from its previous year) to 4 (where every year increases the average temperature).

Find the quantity q that maximizes profit if the total revenue, R(q), and total cost, C(q) are given in dollars by R(q)=3q−0.002
marysya [2.9K]

Answer:

The value of q that maximize the profit is q=200 units

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

The profit is equal to the revenue minus the cost

we have

R(q)=3q-0.002q^{2} ---> the revenue

C(q)=200+2.2q ---> the cost

The profit  P(q) is equal to

P(q)=R(q)-C(q)

substitute the given values

P(q)=(3q-0.002q^{2})-(200+2.2q)

P(q)=3q-0.002q^{2}-200-2.2q

P(q)=-0.002q^{2}+0.8q-200

This is a vertical parabola open downward (because the leading coefficient is negative)

The vertex represent a maximum

The x-coordinate of the vertex represent the value of q that maximize the profit

The y-coordinate of the vertex represent the maximum profit

using a graphing tool

Graph the quadratic equation

The vertex is the point (200,-120)

see the attached figure

therefore

The value of q that maximize the profit is q=200 units

Find a linear equation to model this real-world application:
SSSSS [86.1K]

The linear equation to model the company's monthly expenses is y = 2.5x + 3650

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Let "x" be the units produced in a month

It costs ABC electronics company $2.50 per unit to produce a part used in a popular brand of desktop computers.

Cost per unit = $ 2.50

The company has monthly operating expenses of $350 for utilities and $3300 for salaries

We have to write the linear equation

The linear equation to model the company's monthly expenses in the form of:

y = mx + b

Cost per unit = $ 2.50

Monthly Expenses = $ 350 for utilities and $ 3300 for salaries

Let "y" be the total monthly expenses per month

Then,

Total expenses = Cost per unit(number of units) + Monthly Expenses

y = 2.50(x) + 350 + 3300\\\\y = 2.5x + 3650

Thus the linear equation to model the company's monthly expenses is y = 2.5x + 3650
