Choose the appropriate term to fill in the sentence: When mrs. m ate, her intestinal contents became more concentrated than her blood. This means that her intestinal contents were hypertonic to her blood and her blood was hypotonic to her intestinal contents.

<h3>Further explanation </h3>

The intestinal content extracts contained mostly amino acids (Leu, Ile, Lys, Arg), lactate, and carbohydrates such as glucose and galactose.

Hypertonic is a solution with higher osmotic pressure than another solution. Hypertonic solution is one in which there is a greater concentration or number of solute particles outside a membrane than there are inside it. Whereas hypotonic solution has a lower concentration of solutes than another solution. A solution outside of a cell is called hypotonic if it has a lower concentration of solutes relative to the cytosol.

When mrs. m ate, her intestinal contents became more concentrated than her blood. This means that her intestinal contents were hypertonic to her blood and her blood was hypotonic to her intestinal contents. Its because her blood has a lower concentration of solutes than her intestinal contents

According to the concentration, the substances can be divided into three groups:

1. Hypertonic: substance having more concentration of solute than other.

2. Hypotonic: substance having less concentration of solute than other.

3. Isotonic: substance having the same concentration as of other.

In this case, the concentration of content in small intestine is greater than blood. And the content of the blood is less than the content of small intestine.

So, the first blank can be filled with hypertonic and the second blank can be filled with hypotonic.

Anton Leeuwenhoek Devised a primitive microscope to observe a sample of his tooth scrapings. How did this help contribute it to
4vir4ik [10]

Answer:

C- it help to show that some bacteria are just one cell.

Explanation:

Anton Leeuwenhoek was the first scientist who observed the presence of bacteria in his tooth scratch under the microscope made by himself. At that time there was no concept of bacteria and he named those small creatures as animalcules which were later termed as bacteria.

Leeuwenhoek during 1670s  sent the details of his experimentation on algae and bacteria to Royal Society of London.

It was due to his that primitive experiment that made the discovery of bacteria and make it known to other scientists. Therefore option C is the best option that demonstrates that bacteria are single celled organisms that are very minute. When we look at cell theory there is a postulate that shows that cell is the fundamental unit of function and structure  of all living organisms. So, the work of Anton Leeuwenhoek holds substantial importance in the formulation of cell theory.

Hope it helps!

Using the images or terms, describe how parts of a cell interact to export proteins.
tino4ka555 [31]
A protein is a large sequence of amino acid that was translated in ribosomes (or rough endoplasmic reticulum) from a mRNA that was transcribed in the nucleus from DNA.
If the protein has an extracellular function (like immunoglobulin) if should be exocytosed from the cell.
The protein in the cell is driven to the membrane into vesicles that have a specific receptor, which allows, while in contact with the inner side of the cell membrane to open it and let the protein being transported in the extracellular medium.

When the protein gramicidin is integrated into a membrane, an H+ channel forms and the membrane becomes very permeable to proton
Aleks [24]

Answer:

Explanation:

because a proton gradient is necessary over the inner mitochondrial membrane during oxidative phosphorylation for ATP production, ATP production will decease if gramicidin is added because the inner mitochondrial membrane will become permeable and the protons will be able to move in and out, there will be no electrochemical gradient left to drive ATP production. Electron transport will not be altered because it is dependent on the availability of NADH and FADH2. proton pumping also will remain the same but it will be useless because the protons can go back and forth

A scientist grows tomatoes in greenhouses that differ only in the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. He determines the weight
Leno4ka [110]

Answer:

This is an controlled experiment because he is only changing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. Since he is only changing one variable at a time and comparing it to a natural, unaltered tomatoe area, his experiment is controlled.

Explanation:

The definition of a controlled experiment is a test where the person conducting the test only changes one variable at a time in order to isolate the results. An experiment where all subjects involved in the experiment are treated exactly the same except for one deviation is an example of a control experiment.
