We know one mole of any compound posses Avogadro's number of molecules. Now 1 mole of sodium phosphate (Na_{3}PO_{4}) has mass of 163.94gm. In which there are three (3) cations i.e. Na^{+} ions. The ions present in 1 mole of sodium phosphate can be shown as Na_{3}PO_{4}→3Na^{+}+[PO_{4}]^{3-}. So 1 mole of sodium phosphate contains 3×6.023×10^{23} positive ions. (where Avogadro's number is 6.023×10^{23}). Now 1 mole of sodium phosphate is equivalent to 163.94gm. So 163.94gm of sodium phosphate contains 3×6.023×10^{23} positive ions. Or, 1.806×10^{24} number of positive ion. Thus 1gm of sodium phosphate contains 1.806×10^{24} /163.94 = 1.102×10^{22} number of cations. Or, 40gm of sodium phosphate contains 1.102×10^{22}×40=4.408×10^{23} number of cations.

Formula of sodium phosphate is Na_3PO_4

The molar mass of compound,M = 164 g /mol

Mass of compound, m = 30 g

Number of mol is mass of compound divided by its molar mass as below:

n = m /M


= 30 / 164 = 0.182 mol

Mole can be expressed as:

Number of particle /N_A = n = 0.182 mol

Number of particle = 0.182 * 6.02 * 10^23

= 1.1 * 10^23 molecule

As 3 sodium or cation are present in compound= 3 * 1.1 * 10^23 cation = 3.3 * 10^23 cation

Thus, 3.3 * 10^23  cation are present in 30 g sodium phosphate
