The denarius was a unit of currency in ancient Rome. Suppose it costs the Roman government 101010 denarii per day to support 444

legionaries and 444 archers. It only costs 555 denarii per day to support 222 legionaries and 222 archers. Use a system of linear equations in two variables. Can we solve for a unique cost for each soldier?

Let cost for each legionary be L

and that for each archer be A

We know that the system of linear equations that represent the information given in the question is :

  • 444×L + 444×A = 101,010
  • 222×L + 222×A = 555

We will notice that the above two equations represent the same line:

Divide the first equation by 222

⇒ 2×L + 2×A = 450

Now, divide the second equation by 11

⇒ 2×L + 2×A = 5

We can see that simplified versions of equations 1 and 2, lead to 2×L + 2×A being equal to different numbers

Hence, this system of equations is inconsistent. Hence, they have no solution, so we can't have a unique cost for each soldier.

Pecans that cost $28.50 per kilogram were mixed with almonds that cost $22.25 per kilogram. How many kilograms of each were used
atroni [7]

Answer:

The pecans used in the mixture =  8 kg

The almonds used in the mixture  =  17 kg

Step-by-step explanation:

The cost of per kg of pecans  = $28.50

The cost of per kg of almonds = $22.25

Now, total weight of mixture  = 25 kg

Let us assume the weight of pecans in the mixture   =   m kg

So, the amount of almonds in the mixture  = Total weight - Weight of Pecans

= (25 - m) kg

Now, cost of m kg pecans  = m x ( cost of 1 kg pecans) = m x ( $ 28.50)

                                              =  28.50 m

cost of (25- m) kg almonds  = (25 -m)  x ( cost of 1 kg almonds)

                                                = (25 - m) x ( $ 22.25)

                                                =  556.25  - 22.25 m

Total cost  of 25 kg of mixture  = 25 x ( $24.25) =  $606.25

Now, Total Cost of (almonds  + Pecans)  = Total cost of mixture

⇒28.50 m + 556.25  - 22.25 m  = $606.25

or,6.25 m =  50

or, m = 50/6.25 =  8

Hence, the pecans used in the mixture = m = 8 kg

And the  almonds used in the mixture  = (25 - m) = 25 - 8 = 17 kg

Martin has 12 times as many baseball cards as Josie. Josie has 29 more cards than Kal. How many baseball cards does Martin have?
s344n2d4d5 [400]
I could work out this question but not exactly sure because I think that you need to find out how many kal has because kal is the problem here. once u figure that out. times the number by 12 and yeah. that would be your answer but idk how many kal has.

A local PTA runs a fundraiser, selling lottery tickets for $5, offering 1 first prize of $100 and 5 second prizes worth $20 each
podryga [215]
100 tickets were sold.
The total amount of the tickets sold is = 5 * 100 = $500.
First prize given = $100
Second prize worth = $20 * 5 = $100
Total worth of prize + $100 + $100 = $200.
Net amount of tickets sold = $500 - $200 = $300
Expected price of each ticket sold = $300/100 = 3.
Therefore, the real price of each ticket sold is $3.

The cup, on the 9th hole of a golf course, is located, dead center, in the middle of a circular green, which is 35 feet in radiu
ale4655 [162]

Answer:

± 27.33 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

For the given problem, we can estimate the initial and final coordinates of the line of the ball path as (-40,-50) and (0,0). Therefore, the slope is:

(-50-0)/(-40-0) = 50/40 = 1.25

Similarly, we can estimate the slope of a perpendicular line to the line of the ball path as: -1*(1/1.25) = -0.8.

Therefore, using (0,0) and the slope -0.8, the equation of the perpendicular line is: -0.8 = (y-0)/(x-0);

-0.8 = y/x

y = -0.8x

Furthermore, we are given the circle radius as 35 ft and we can use the distance formula to find the two points 35 ft far from the origin:

35^2 = x^2 + y^2

y = -0.8x

35^2 = x^2 + (-0.8x)^2

1225 = (x^2 + 0.64x^2)

1225 = 1.64x^2

x^2 = 1225/1.64 = 746.95

x = sqrt(746.95) = ± 27.33 ft
