The language that Stowe uses as George describes his country in Chapter 11 is extremely confrontational. George gets into a long conversation with Mr. Wilson and the topic they are speaking on is his "country". This leads into the metaphor, "What country have I, but the grave?George tells his belief that the slave is without a country. His only true home is his final resting place after hie dies. The emotion that George reveals is empathy. The grave metaphor is used to illustrate the idea that he won't be truly free until he has died and that the only American soil that can be considered free for African Americans is the soil of their graves.

Read the excerpt from Roosevelt’s State of the Union address and the poster below it. Fortunately, there are only a few American
JulsSmile [24]

Answer:

D

Explanation:

The speech is a direct reminder to Americans that they can contribute to the war effort by helping to send food abroad to feed troops and Allied forces. The reference is rather direct and appeals directly to the American appetite, asking people to keep the war effort in mind even when considering the menu.

The poster only focuses on farming and, while it may also indirectly contribute to food production and the amount sent overseas, does not address the war effort directly.

Some persuasive programming involves only ethos, some involves only pathos, and some involves only logos. Which of these single-
Aleksandr [31]

Answer:

I find that pathos is typically the most effective, seconded by logos, with ethos in last place.

Explanation:

Many people use sob stories and the like to great effect, while, in many cases, those who use ethos are shut down by others who are certain in their belief that they know better. Logos is in between of this. Honestly, it depends on who you are talking too. Just remember, many humans are ruled by their emotional centers, and not their logical ones.
