For the questions below, enter your answers using interval notation. You can use "U" to represent a "union", e.g. enter "(1,2) U

(3,5)" for ( 1 , 2 ) ∪ ( 3 , 5 ) . You can enter "oo" for ∞ , e.g. enter "(-oo, oo)" for ( − ∞ , ∞ ) .

1) Given that

f(x) = 2x^2+4

We find that this is a parabola with vertex at (0.4) open up.

x can take any real value.

So domain of f = (-∞,∞)

Since open up with vertex at (0,4) y cannot take values <4

Range = [4,∞)

-------------------------------------------------

2) g(x) = x^{1/2} -\frac{3}{x} -8

Because x is in denominator x cannot equal 0

Also first term is square root of x.  Hence x can be only positive

So domain is [0,∞)

When x increases y also increases indefinitely.

Hence range = (-∞,∞)

Harper went into a movie theater and bought 10 bags of popcorn and 6 drinks,
Gnesinka [82]

Answer:

The price of a drink = $4

The price of a bag of popcorn = $5.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Let p represent popcorn and d represent drink

<u>Harper bought 10 bags of popcorn and 6 drinks and paid $79 ➡ 10p + 6d = $79</u>

<em>Damian bought 3 bags of popcorn and 5 drinks and paid $36.50 ➡ 3p + 5d = $36.50</em>

Now multiply first equation by -3 and second equation by 10

-3 × (10p + 6d) = $79 ➡ -30p - 18d = -$237

10 × (3p + 5d) = $36.50 ➡ 30p + 50d = $365

Now add the new equationd

30p + 50d -30p - 18d = $365 - $237 (-30p will eliminate 30p)

32d = $128 divide both sides of the equation by 32

32 ÷ 32d = 32 ÷ $128 ➡ d = 4

If d = 4 that means a drink costs $4 we can use this information to find the price of a bag of popcorn

3p + 5d = $36.50 (replace d with 4)

3p + 4×5 = $36.50

3p + 20 = $36.50

3p = $36.50 - 20

3p = 16.50 divide both sides by 3

p = $5.5

If the function y = sinx is transformed to y = 3 sine (two-thirds x), how do the amplitude and period change?
icang [17]

Answer:

Amplitude increases and the period decreases

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, we are to compare amplitude change and period change

The first equation is;

y = sin x

The second is

y = 3 sine (2/3)x

Generally, the equation of a sine graph can be written as;

y = a sin (bx + c)

where a represents the amplitude and b refers to the period

In the first equation , a = 1 while in the second , a = 3 ; This shows an amplitude increase

In the first equation, b = 1 while in the second equation b = 2/3; this shows a period decrease
