Lydia hypothesizes that warmer temperatures promote faster cell division. Which experimental design would best allow Lydia to te

st her hypothesis?
A.
Fill three identical flasks full of nutrient broth with 10, 20, or 30 bacterial cells. Then, place all three flasks into an incubator at 25°C. Finally, measure how many bacterial colonies are in each flask after four hours have passed.
B.
Place twenty bacterial cells in each of three identical flasks full of nutrient broth. Then, place each flask in an incubator set at 10°C, 20°C, or 30°C. Finally, measure the number of bacterial cells in each flask every twenty minutes for four hours.
C.
Use a toothpick to scrape cheek cells from the inside of the mouth. Place the cheek cells in the center of a petri dish. Light a match and place the match in the petri dish with the cells. Cover the petri dish until the match burns out. Then, measure the number of cells in the dish.
D.
Use a toothpick to scrape cheek cells from the inside of the mouth. Place the cheek cells in formaldehyde to preserve them and then stain them with purple dye. Create a wet mount of the cheek cells and observe them under a microscope.

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

The hypothesis states that the cell division is dependent on the temperature. It states that high temperature favors more cell division.

Here, in the experiment the independent variable is temperature because we can control the temperature.

The division of cell is dependent variable because it is dependent on the temperature range.

In the given statement the bacterial colonies are grown on three different temperatures so that the cell count can be observed. This is the best option suiting the hypothesis.

How is loess beneficial? It grows healthy crops. It prevents wind erosion. It protects land from waves. It decreases the slope o
Arturiano [62]

The correct answer is option A, It grows healthy crops.

Because the loess soil is very fertile due to its ability to exchange cations and porosity.

Due to cation exchange capacity the plants easily absorbs nutrients from the soil and due to porosity the soil holds the water, oxygen and nutrients which is absorbed by the roots of the plants for their nourishment.

Mendel’s law of independent assortment says that the inheritance of one trait is not influenced by inheritance of another trait.
Svetradugi [14.3K]

Answer:

In meiosis I, the arrangement of any homologous chromosome along the center plane ( forgot the name for this) is independent of the arrangement of the other homologous chromosomes. There is thus equal probability for the chromosome to be in either of the two daughter cells after meiosis I. This is observed in meiosis 2 metaphase as well where the arrangement of each Sister chromatid about the ‘center plane’ is independent of each other. This independence observed during metaphase of meiosis I and meiosis II allows for chromatids to be in either gamete formed in equal probability, not affecting by other chromatids thus inheritance of one trait is not affected by the inheritance of another trait.

Why is the nitrogen fixation carried out by cyanobacteria , bacteria and some archaea in marine environments important?
strojnjashka [21]
The nitrogen fixation is a very important process because it is the principal source of nitrogen in the marine environment for photosynthetic plants. Nitrogen is a growth limiting nutrient, that is very important for the growth of photosynthetic plants. During the process of nitrogen fixation, nitrogen is absorbed from the atmosphere and it is fixed by nitrogen fixing organisms.
