Answer:

<em>When an author makes a </em><u><em>claim</em></u><em>, (s)he is stating something which might or might not be true. It must be argued. Example: Mary wrote, "I am the best musician in the school."</em>

Explanation:

A claim is an assertion an author or speaker makes to tell something is true but without providing evidence or proof about it, so other people might not believe it because it may be false.

In his poem, Bob Kaufman addresses many social problems of poor. He uses the first-person approach making the the problems personal for himself and his readers. Therefore, the poem is genuine. By employing the lines of "extravagant moments of shock of unrehearsed curiosity," Kaufman points to the injustice in society. Kaufman makes these injustices targets for himself. It looks like he calls for a revolution, making his readers reject social design made for the poor:

I sing a mad raga, I sing a mad raga, a glad raga for the ringing bell I sing.

A man fishing with old clothes line, shouting bass drum

Kaufman uses anaphora which is a type of repetition. The word raga is repeated when introducing each idea or thought.

Raga of lip, raga of brass, raga of ultimate come with yesterday, raga of a parched tongue-walked lip, raga of yellow, raga of mellow, raga of new, raga of old, raga of blue, raga of gold, raga of air spinning into itself

Each idea in this line emphasized by the term raga in a free form. The repetition marks the rhyme, as well meaning "the musical form of yellow," an abstract musical concept. The correct answer is A.

A. <span>It creates a melancholy mood that reflects the narrator’s feelings.

The imagery described in this paragraph is very melancholy, which seems to support the narrator's feelings.

He uses phrases like "patches of snow and earth" and "spotty clouds" which give the image of incompleteness, something not quite full.
He also uses images of darkness, "black trees" and "the stars were out" which support the unhappiness of the narrator's mood. </span>

Which of the following best supports your understanding of the denotative meaning of a word?
lisabon 2012 [21]
The answer that best supports my understanding of the denotative meaning of a word is the last option - the denotative meaning of a word involves the actual, dictionary definition of a word.
The other options refer to the connotative, and not denotative meaning of a word.
