Problem 5-35: Two genes control color in corn snakes as follows: O- B- snakes are brown, O- bb are orange, oo B- are black, and

oo bb are albino. An orange snake was mated to a black snake, and a large number of F1 progeny were obtained, all of which were brown. When the F1 snakes were mated to one another, they produced 100 brown offspring, 25 orange, 22 black, and 13 albino. a. What are the genotypes of the F1 snakes? (1 point) b. What proportions of the different colors would have been expected among the F2 snakes if the two loci assort independently? (1 point) c. Do the observed results differ significantly from what was expected, assuming independent assortment is occurring? What is the probability that differences this great between observed and expected values would happen by chance? (3 points)

How Can Sex-Linked Traits Be Identified
kkurt [141]

If a gene is found only on the X chromosome and not the Y chromosome, it is said to be a sex-linked trait. Because the gene controlling the trait is located on the sex chromosome, sex linkage is linked to the gender of the individual. Usually such genes are found on the X chromosome. The Y chromosome is thus missing such genes (See Diagram above.). The result is that females will have two copies of the sex-linked gene while males will only have one copy of this gene. If the gene is recessive, then males only need one such recessive gene to have a sex-linked trait rather than the customary two recessive genes for traits that are not sex-linked. This is why males exhibit some traits more frequently than females.

You are operating a powerboat at night. Your red sidelight must be visible to boats approaching from which direction(s)?
Degger [83]
I believe the answer is head-on and port (left). The side lights are usually visible to vessels approaching from the front or the side. The red light usually indicates a vessel's port (left) side while the green light indicates a vessel's starboard (right) side. These lights ensure that there is safety at night as the vessels navigate.

The first thing to do is activate EMS. Use cool or cold water to cool the burn for 10 minutes as soon as possible. ( Do not use ice or frozen compress.) Early cooling will minimize the depth of injury and decrease pain. Remove jewelry near the affected area. Cover the injury with dry,  clean pad loosely to protect it. Do not give food or drink to injured person. Keep him comfortable until EMS arrives and takes over.
