Two fathers and two sons own 21 horses. They are moving to different parts of the country and want to divide the horses evenly a

mong themselves. How is this possible?

It isn’t possible for them to have the same amount of horses. Let me explain.

If we wanted to distribute 21 horses between the 4 of them we would have to do 21/4. This equals 5.25, and we know that they aren’t going to bring 5 horses and .25 of a horse; that’s wack!

One person would have to have 6 horses instead of 5. This is probably the answer your teacher wants.

If they really wanted it to be even they could sell the extra horse. Then they could have 20/4=5.

Or they could share that extra horse and send it from place to place.

Hope this helps you!

Manuel thinks the tens digit goes up by 1 in these numbers. Do you agree? Explain. 460,470,480, 490,500,510
laila [671]

Answer:

Manuel is correct, since adding 10 is the same as the tens digit going up by 1.

Step-by-step explanation:

It is important to know the concepts of units, tenths and cents.

For example

1 = 1 unit

10 = 1*10 + 0 = The tens digit is one the unit digit is 0

21 = 2*10 + 1 = The tens digit is two and the unit digit is 1.

120 = 1*100 + 2*10 + 0 = The cents digit is 1, the tens digit is two and the unit digit is 0.

So

Adding 1 is the same as the unit digit going up by 1.

Adding 10 is the same as the tens digit going up by 1.

Adding 100 is the same as the cents digit going up by 1.

In this problem, we have that:

460,470,480, 490,500,510

Each number is 10 added to the previous, that is, the tens digit going up by 1.

Manuel thinks the tens digit goes up by 1 in these numbers. Do you agree?

Manuel is correct, since adding 10 is the same as the tens digit going up by 1.

A ride at an amusement park moves the riders in a circle at a rate of 6.0 m/s. The radius of the ride is 9.0 meters. Which of th
lana [24]

Answer with explanation:

It is given that , ride at an amusement park moves the riders in a circle at a rate of 6.0 m/s.

a=\frac{dv}{dt}=6 m/s

Radius of Circle = 9.0 meters

Acceleration is rate of change of velocity,which will be perpendicular to radius vector.

Also, in terms of mathematics, line from center that is radius , to point of contact that is tangent line ,which is on the circle are perpendicular to each another.

→r(radius vector) ⊥  a(Acceleration vector).

So, In option A, Radius vector is Perpendicular to acceleration of riders.

A candy maker produces mints that have a label weight of 20.4 grams. Assume that the distribution of the weights of these mints
Sliva [168]

Answer:

a)0.099834

b) 0

Step-by-step explanation:

To solve for this question we would be using , z.score formula.

The formula for calculating a z-score is is z = (x-μ)/σ, where x is the raw score, μ is the population mean, and σ is the population standard deviation.

A candy maker produces mints that have a label weight of 20.4 grams. Assume that the distribution of the weights of these mints is normal with mean 21.37 and variance 0.16.

a) Find the probability that the weight of a single mint selected at random from the production line is less than 20.857 grams.

Standard Deviation = √variance

= √0.16 = 0.4

Standard deviation = 0.4

Mean = 21.37

x = 20.857

z = (x-μ)/σ

z = 20.857 - 21.37/0.4

z = -1.2825

P-value from Z-Table:

P(x<20.857) = 0.099834

b) During a shift, a sample of 100 mints is selected at random and weighed. Approximate the probability that in the selected sample there are at most 5 mints that weigh less than 20.857 grams.

z score formula used = (x-μ)/σ/√n

x = 20.857

Standard deviation = 0.4

Mean = 21.37

n = 100

z = 20.857 - 21.37/0.4/√100

= 20.857 - 21.37/ 0.4/10

= 20.857 - 21.37/ 0.04

= -12.825

P-value from Z-Table:

P(x<20.857) = 0

c) Find the approximate probability that the sample mean of the 100 mints selected is greater than 21.31 and less than 21.39.

do you agree that the equation (x-4)²=9 can be solved both by factoring and extracting square roots?
zvonat [6]

Given parameters:

  Equation:

          (x-4)²=9

Problem, solve the equation by factoring and extracting the root

Solution:

    Given equation:

                  (x-4)²=9

         subtract 9 from both sides to equate to zero;

                (x-4)² - 9 = 0

                (x -4)² - 3² = 0

  Now, this is similar to the concept of difference of two squares;

          x² - y² = (x + y)(x-y)

Here x  = x-4 and y = -3

  So input and solve;

              (x - 4 -3)(x - 4 -(-3)) = 0

              (x - 7)(x - 4+3) = 0

              (x -7)(x -1) = 0

S0,

             x - 7 = 0 or x-1 = 0

             x = 7 or 1

If we extract the square roots;

          (x-4)² = 9

         √(x-4)² = √9

              x - 4 = 3

              x  = 4 + 3 = 7; this is not the only solution to the problem

So we cannot solve it by extracting the square root.
