His list of important virtues focuses on the most difficult issues that a man may find hard to actually act on, but which is important and helpful for him too.

I would choose that particular paragraphs because the metaphor is slightly unusual there - two kids, Clarissa and Peter Walsh (when they were young) are being compared to horses, which is not really a common occurrence.
