Which of the following statements is true? A. Interpreted programs run faster than compiled programs. B. Compilers translate hig
alina1380 [7]

Answer:

B.

Explanation:

Computer programs are written in high level languages. Every language has its own set of syntax and semantics.

Computer only understands instructions in machine language which is written using strings of 0 and 1.

Thus, for execution of a high level language program, it is mandatory to convert high level instructions into machine instructions.

This translation into machine language is done in two ways – compilation or interpretation.

Some languages are compiled while others are interpreted.

Both compilers and interpreters are programs and process the high level language program as needed.

Compiler

Any program written in high level language is compiled.

The program is first analyzed before compilation. This process takes time. The analysis phase is called pre processing.

The program compilation stops only when the program is completely analyzed. Hence, it is difficult to locate the error in the program. This makes debugging easy.

Debugging is defined as removal of errors in the programs.

A compiler is responsible for converting high level language code into machine level code.

The complete program undergoes compilation at the same time.

A compiled program executes faster than an interpreted program.

A compiled program produce machine code which is a collection of 0 and 1, hence, it takes less time to execute.

Examples of compiled languages are C and C++.

Interpreter

Some high level languages are interpreted.

The high level language code is translated into an intermediate level code. This intermediate code is then executed.

The analysis of the program takes less time and takes place before interpretation begins. The analysis phase is called pre processing.

An interpreted program is translated one line at a time.

The program interpretation stops when an error is encountered. This makes debugging easy.

Debugging is defined as removal of errors in the programs.

Examples of interpreted languages include Python and Ruby.

Write an expression that will cause the following code to print "I am a teenager" if the value of userAge is less than 20. Zyboo
VikaD [51]

Answer:

Replace

if userAge > 20

with

userAge > 19

Explanation:

if userAge > 20  checks if age is 21, 22, 23, 24........

The else condition which prints "I am a teenager" checks if age is 20, 19, 18....

Notice that 20 is inclusive of the else condition; this shouldn't be because for userAge to be less than 20, 20 isn't inclusive

To solve this,

Replace if userAge > 20 with userAge > 19

So that, the else

The else condition which prints "I am a teenager" checks if age is 19, 18, 17, 16....

Compare the memory organization schemes of contiguous memory allocation and paging with respect to the following issues: a. Exte
Free_Kalibri [48]

Answer:

The comparison is based on memory organization schemes of contiguous memory allocation and paging with respect to External fragmentation, Internal fragmentation and Ability to share code across processes.

Explanation:

Memory organization schemes of contiguous memory allocation:

Contiguous memory allocation schemes suffers from external fragmentation. The reason is that address space is distributed contiguously and the holes and gaps keep growing when the old processes die and new processes are introduced. The variable size partition suffers from external fragmentation however the fixed size partitions do not suffer from external fragmentation. Contiguous memory allocation with variable size partitions does not encounter an internal fragmentation but with fixed size partitions suffers from internal fragmentation. Contiguous memory allocation does not support sharing code across processes. This is because the virtual memory segment of a process is not fragmented into non-contiguous fine grained blocks.

Paging:

Paging does not encounter external fragmentation as pages are of the fixed or equal size. So this reduces external fragmentation. However paging suffers from internal fragmentation. This is because a process can request more space or it can request for a less space. When page is allocated to the such a process that page is no longer utilized. This results in internal fragmentation because of the wastage of space even when the page has internal space but cannot be fully utilized. Paging allows to share code across processes.
