Find the critical points of the following function. Use the Second Derivative Test to determine (if possible) whether each crit

ical point corresponds to a local maximum, local minimum, or saddle point. If the Second Derivative Test is inconclusive, determine the behavior of the function at the critical points. f(x,y)=−8x2+6y2−14

Answer with Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that a function

f(x,y)=-8x^2+6y^2-14

We have to find the critical points and find the function has local maximum, local minimum, or saddle point using second derivative test.

Differentiate w.r.t x

f_x=-16x

f_{xx}=-16

Differentiate function w.r.t y

f_y=12y

f_{yy}=12

f_{xy}=0

To find the critical point

Substitute f_x=0,f_y=0

-16x=0\implies x=0

12y=0\implies y=0

The critical point is (0,0).

Value of  D at critical point (a,b)

D=f_{xx}f_{yy}-(f_{xy})^2

f_{xx}(0,0)=-16

f_{yy}(0,0)=12,f_{xy}(0,0)=0

Substitute the values then we get

D=(-16)(12)-0

D=-192

D < 0, f_{xx}(0,0) < 0

Therefore, the function has saddle point  at (0,0) because when D < 0 the f(x,y) has saddle point at critical point (x_0,y_0).

Tom saves $750 a year. Bill saves $60 a month. How much more does Tom save a year than Bill?
wlad13 [49]

Answer:

B) 30

Step-by-step explanation:

Bill saves 60 dollars a month so first you have to find out how much he saves in a year

To find that you multiply 60 by 12 since there are 12 months in a year

60*12 = 720

Tom saves 750 in a year so you have to subtract 750 by 720 to know how much more tom saves

750 - 720 = 30

Evgesh-ka [11]
It is given here that there is 1/3 probability of professional baseball player will get a hit. Hence if  at least three hits are gained out of 5 attempts, the calculation goes:  5C3* (1/3)^3*(2/3)^2 + 5C4* (1/3)^4*(2/3)^1 +5C5 *<span>(1/3)^5*(2/3)^0 equal to 0.21. </span>

Sholpan [36]

Complete question :

Responder:

Coches blancos

180 coches

Explicación paso a paso:

Dado que:

Rojo = 1/6 del total

Azul = 2/9 del total

Blanco = 4/15 del total

Para determinar qué color es el más alto, convierta los valores en decimal:

1/6 = 0,166667

2/9 = 0,2222

15/4 = 0,26667

Por lo tanto;

4/15> 2/9> 1/6

Por tanto, los coches blancos son los que más

2.)

Sea Número total = x

Por lo tanto,

2/9 de x = 40

2x / 9 = 40

2x = 360

x = 180

Por tanto, hay 180 coches en total.

Which table might represent ava's line ?
Serjik [45]

Answer:

The correct option is 3.

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the slope of a line Ava wrote the expression

m=\frac{4-2}{3-1}       ..... (1)

The formula to find the slope is

m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}            .... (2)

On comparing (1) and (2), we get

x_1=1, y_1=2

x_2=3, y_2=4

It means the value of y is 2 at x=1 and the value of y is 4 at x=3.

Therefore table 3 represents the Ava's line and option 3 is correct.
