The labours which were rendered to the Zamindar by the villagers in the city of Awadh were the Pahi Kashta.

The rendered labour were the bonded slave for their servitude and are commonly called as the indentured labour. They were called as Pahi Kashta during the times of Mughal empire. There were broadly two kinds of peasants of those times, one were the Khud Kashta and other were the Pahi Kashta.

The Khud Kashta were the residents of the village where they had some of the lands of their own. While Pahi Kashta were brought from some other village to cultivate lands on a contractual terms from the villagers to Zamindar.
