The force exerted by expanding gases is what propels a shell out of a gun barrel. Suppose a force that has an average magnitude

F propels the shell so that it has a speed v at the instant it reaches the end of the barrel. Part A What magnitude force is required to double the speed of the shell in the same gun?

Answer:

F_1 = 4F

Explanation:

We need to find a proportion between the two force. This proportion is easly identificable through the Work made for both.

Then,

W = Fl

The work done by the force on the shell = change in kinetic energy,

Fl = KE_f - KE_i

Fl = KE_f

Fl = \frac{1}{2}mv^2

We know can calculate the speed of the gun when is doubled.

F_1l=\frac{1}{2}m(2v)^2

F_1l = \frac{1}{2}m(4v^2)

F_1l=\frac{1}{2}m(4v^2)

The relation between this two states is given by

\frac{F_1l}{Fl} = \frac{\frac{1}{2}m4v^2}{\frac{1}{2}mv^2}

\frac{F_1}{F} = 4

F_1 = 4F

Therefore the magnitude force is required to double the speed of te shell in the same gun is F_1 = 4F

Now suppose the initial velocity of the train is 4 m/s and the hill is 4 meters tall. If the train has a mass of 30000 kg, what
hoa [83]

Answer:

<h2>187,500N/m</h2>

Explanation:

From the question, the kinectic energy of the train will be equal to the energy stored in the spring.

Kinetic energy = 1/2 mv² and energy stored in a spring E = 1/2 ke².

Equating both we will have;

1/2 mv² = 1/2ke²

mv² = ke²

m is the mass of the train

v is the velocity of then train

k is the spring constant

e is the extension caused by the spring.

Given m = 30000kg, v = 4 m/s, e = 4 - 2.4 = 1.6m

Substituting this values into the formula will give;

30000*4² =  k*1.6²

k = \frac{30,000*16}{1.6^2}\\ \\k = \frac{480,000}{2.56}\\ \\k = 187,500Nm^{-1}

The value of the spring constant is 187,500N/m

5. A nail contains trillions of electrons. Given that electrons repel from each other, why do they not then fly out of the nail?
diamong [38]

Answer:

Nails are made of iron. Iron consists of 26 protons and 26 electrons. protons are positively charged and electrons are negatively charged, so this force of attraction keeps the electrons together.

If electrons repel from each other, the positively charge protons and nucleus allow them to move in a definite orbit and prevent them flying out of the nail.

13. A diver swims to a depth of 3.2 m in a freshwater lake. What is the increase in the force pushing in on her eardrum, compare
Gnoma [55]

Answer:

1.88 N

Explanation:

h = 3.2 m, A = 0.6 cm^2 = 0.6 x 10^-4 m^2

density of water, d = 1000 kg/m^3, g = 9.8 m/s^2

Pressure at depth h, P = h x d x g = 3.2 x 1000 x 9.8 = 31.36 x 10^3 Pa

Force = pressure x Area = 31.36 x 10^3 x 0.6 x 10^-4 = 1.88 N

Thus, the force on ear drum is 1.88 N.
