If a muscle fiber were to suddenly and permanently stop producing ATP the fiber would no longer be able to actively transport ca

lcium out of the cytoplasm (sarcoplasm) and the intracellular calcium concentration would rise. Which of the following would you expect to happen? A. Calcium would be transported to the sarcoplasmic reticulum therefore contractions would cease. B. Myosin would be able to bind to the exposed binding sites on thin filaments but it would not be able to detach. C. The fiber would twitch uncontrollably due to excessive calcium bound to troponin. D. No change would occur in a muscle that was relaxed to begin with.

Answer:

A. Calcium would be transported to the sarcoplasmic reticulum therefore contractions would cease.

Explanation:

A muscle fibre will stop contraction immediately ATP is used up. Also, muscle contraction will end as soon as the information from the motor neuron stops. This repolarizes the sarcolemma and T-tubules, thereby closing the voltage-gated calcium channels in the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Calcium ions are then pumped back into the sarcoplasmic reticulum, in order for tropomyosin to cover the binding sites on the actin strands again.

Jet lag occurs when a person moves rapidly from one time zone to another, causing conflict between the body's biological rhythm
vova2212 [387]

Answer:

c) melatonin

Explanation:

Melatonin its a hormone formed by the pineal gland, which regulates an individual wake cycles and sleep. Jetlag alters the hormone function leading to an alteration with the body clock of the persom.

Jetlag is a sleep disorder common to those who travel swiftly over several time zones. It is not a permanent sleep disorder. Its due to the body's internal clock lacking sync with cues generated in a different time zone, Cues may be due to light exposure and how often the person eats.

A basic factor on ones internal clock is sunlight. It controls the regulation of melatonin which aid in synchronizing cells in the body.

Specific cells of the tissue at retina moves the light signals the thypothalamus.

At night, the hypothalamus signal to the pineal gland to produce melatonin. At daylight hours, the reverse is the case.

The rapid depolarization phase of the action potentials of myocardial contractile cells is due to which ion(s)? The rapid depola
fgiga [73]

Answer:

Na+ only

Explanation:

Depolarisation of membrane refers to the change in the resting membrane potential of the membrane of a cell which is usually -70mv to a more positive value.

This value changes when the positive ions move inside the cell which increases the positive charge inside the cell.

In the myocardial cell, the sodium ions move inside the cell which changes the potential towards the more positive side as a result of which the signals for contraction arises.

Thus, Na+ only is correct.
