Gilda sister has to swim 6.5 miles to use the same number of calories Gilda used during the marathon

<u>Solution:</u>

Given, Swimming \frac{1}{4} of a mile uses about the same number of calories as running 1 mile.

Gilda ran 26- mile marathon.

We have to find about how far would her sister have to swim to use the same number of calories Gilda used during the marathon

Now, according to given information,

\begin{array}{l}{1 \text { mile running } \rightarrow \frac{1}{4} \text { mile swimming }} \\\\ {\text { Then, } 26 \text { miles running } \rightarrow^{\prime \prime} n^{\prime \prime} \text { miles swimming }} \\\\ {\text { So, by chris cross method, }} \\\\ {n \times 1=\frac{1}{4} \times 26} \\\\ {\rightarrow n=\frac{26}{4}} \\\\ {\rightarrow n=6.5 \text { miles }}\end{array}

Hence, gilda sister has to swim 6.5 miles.

Given the trinomial 5x^2-2x-3, predict the type of solutions.
pishuonlain [190]

Consider the trinomial 5x^2-2x-3.

1. Find the discriminant:

D=b^2-4ac=(-2)^2-4\cdot 5\cdot (-3)=4+60=64,\\ \\\sqrt{D}=8>0.

2. Find the roots of given trinomial:

x_{1,2}=\dfrac{-b\pm \sqrt{D}}{2a}=\dfrac{2\pm 8}{2\cdot 5}=1,-0.6.

3. Conclusion: given trinomial has two different real roots.
