The value of d is -2

Step-by-step explanation:

The nth term of the arithmetic sequence is u_{n}=u_{1}+(n-1)d , where

  • u_{1} is the first term
  • d is the common difference between each 2 consecutive terms

The nth term of the geometric sequence is u_{n}=u_{1}r^{n-1} , where

  • u_{1} is the first term
  • r is the common ratio between each two consecutive terms r=\frac{u_{2}}{u_{1}}=\frac{u_{3}}{u_{2}}

∵ u_{1} of an arithmetic sequence is 1

∵ The common difference is d, where d ≠ 0

∵ u_{2} , u_{3} , u_{6} are the first 3 terms of a geometric sequence

∵ u_{2} = 1 + (2 - 1)d

∴ u_{2} = 1 + d

∵ u_{3} = 1 + (3 - 1)d

∴ u_{2} = 1 + 2d

∵ u_{6} = 1 + (6 - 1)d

∴ u_{2} = 1 + 5d

∴ The first 3 terms of the geometric sequence are (1 + d) , (1 + 2d) ,

   (1 + 5d)

∵ The common ratio in the geometric sequence is r=\frac{u_{2}}{u_{1}}=\frac{u_{3}}{u_{2}}

∴ r=\frac{1+2d}{1+d}=\frac{1+5d}{1+2d}

- Use cross multiplication with the equal fractions

∵ \frac{1+2d}{1+d}=\frac{1+5d}{1+2d}

∴ (1 + 2d)(1 + 2d) = (1 + d)(1 + 5d)

∴ 1 + 2d + 2d + 4d² = 1 + 5d + d + 5d²

- Add like terms in each side

∴ 1 + 4d + 4d² = 1 + 6d + 5d²

- Subtract 1 from both sides

∴ 4d + 4d² = 6d + 5d²

- Subtract 4d from both sides

∴ 4d² = 2d + 5d²

- Subtract 4d² from each side

∴ 0 = 2d + d²

- Take d as a common factor

∴ 0 = d(2 + d)

- Equate each factor by 0

∴ d = 0 but we will reject it because d ≠ 0

∴ 2 + d = 0

- Subtract 2 from both sides

∴ d = -2

The value of d is -2

<u>Part a)</u> if a page is reduced to 80%, what percent enlargement is needed to return it to its original size?

Let

x---------> the percent enlargement

we know that

the original size is the 100%

so

x*80%=100%

x=(100%/80%)

x=1.25--------> 1.25=(125/100)=125%

therefore

<u>the answer Part a) is</u>

the percent enlargement is 125%

<u>Part b)</u> Estimate the number of times in succession that a page must be copied to make the final copy less than 15% of the size of the original

we know that

A photocopy machine can reduce copies to 80% of their original size

so

Copy N 1

0.80*100%=80%

Copy N 2

0.80*80%=64%

Copy N 3

0.80*64%=51.2%

Copy N 4

0.80*51.2%=40.96%

Copy N 5

0.80*40.96%=32.77%

Copy N 6

0.80*32.77%=26.21%

Copy N 7

0.80*26.21%=20.97%

Copy N 8

0.80*20.97%=16.78%

Copy N 9

therefore

<u>the answer Part b) is</u>

the number of times in succession is 9

Jackie bought a 3-pack of tubes of glue. She used 0.27 ounce of the glue from the 3-pack
brilliants [131]

Answer:

0.54 ounces in each tube

Step-by-step explanation:

Add the amount she used so we can add it in. 1.35+0.27= 1.62. Then divide it by the number of tube and since it was a 3 pack you divide it by 3. 1.62/3=0.54 so there is 0.54 ounces in each tube.

Which statements about the figure are true? Select two options.
harina [27]

<u>Complete Question</u>

The circle is inscribed in triangle PRT. A circle is inscribed in triangle P R T. Points Q, S, and U of the circle are on the sides of the triangle. Point Q is on side P R, point S is on side R T, and point U is on side P T. The length of R S is 5, the length of P U is 8, and the length of U T is 6. Which statements about the figure are true?

Answer:

(B)TU ≅ TS

(D)The length of line segment PR is 13 units.

Step-by-step explanation:

The diagram of the question is drawn for more understanding,

The theorem applied to this problem is that of tangents. All tangents drawn to a circle from the same point are equal.

Therefore:

|PQ|=|PU|=8 Units

|ST|=|UT| =6 Units

|RS|=|RQ|=5 Units

(b)From the above, TU ≅ TS

(d)Line Segment |PR|=|PQ|+|QR|=8+5=`13 Units
