Ok so, based on the graph lets say that x = seconds and  y = depth of dolphin. the interception in both points is when they are at 0 i.e when x is equals 0 and y equals 0. So At 0 seconds, the dolphin is 42 feet below the surface. So we say that x = 0, y = -42 and then the y intercepts = -42 so the point of interception is(0 (seconds),-42(depth of the dolphin)) When the clock says it's 14 seconds, the dolphin is even with the surface (0 below the surface this time). So we say that x = 14, y = 0. In this case The x intercept = 14 (14,0). But we need to calculate The slope with the formula= (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) = 42/14 = 3. Therefore, the formula for this line is y = 3x - 42.

The time until recharge for a battery in a laptop computer under common conditions is normally distributed with mean of 265 minu
pochemuha

Answer:

a) 0.691 = 69.1% probability that a battery lasts more than four hours

b) 25% value = 231

75% value = 299

c) 183 minutes

Step-by-step explanation:

Problems of normally distributed samples are solved using the z-score formula.

In a set with mean \mu and standard deviation \sigma, the zscore of a measure X is given by:

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

The Z-score measures how many standard deviations the measure is from the mean. After finding the Z-score, we look at the z-score table and find the p-value associated with this z-score. This p-value is the probability that the value of the measure is smaller than X, that is, the percentile of X. Subtracting 1 by the pvalue, we get the probability that the value of the measure is greater than X.

In this problem, we have that:

\mu = 265, \sigma = 50

a) What is the probability that a battery lasts more than four hours?

4 hours = 4*60 = 240 minutes

This is 1 subtracted by the pvalue of Z when X = 240. So

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

Z = \frac{240 - 265}{50}

Z = -0.5

Z = -0.5 has a pvalue of 0.309

1 - 0.309 = 0.691

0.691 = 69.1% probability that a battery lasts more than four hours

b) What are the quartiles (the 25% and 75% values) of battery life?

25th percentile:

X when Z has a pvalue of 0.25. So X when Z = -0.675

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

-0.675 = \frac{X - 265}{50}

X - 265 = -0.675*50

X = 231

75th percentile:

X when Z has a pvalue of 0.75. So X when Z = 0.675

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

0.675 = \frac{X - 265}{50}

X - 265 = 0.675*50

X = 299

25% value = 231

75% value = 299

c) What value of life in minutes is exceeded with 95% probability?

The 100-95 = 5th percentile, which is the value of X when Z has a pvalue of 0.05. So X when Z = -1.645.

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

-1.645 = \frac{X - 265}{50}

X - 265 = -1.645*50

X = 183

G A professor has two light bulbs in his garage. When both are burned out, they are replaced, and the next day starts with two w
Aneli [31]

Answer:

2/7 or 0.2857

Step-by-step explanation:

The expected time before the first bulb burns out (two bulbs working) is given by the inverse of the probability that a bulb will go out each day:

E_1 = \frac{1}{0.02}=50\ days

The expected time before the second bulb burns out (one bulb working), after the first bulb goes out, is given by the inverse of the probability that the second bulb will go out each day:

E_2 = \frac{1}{0.05}=20\ days

Therefore, the long-run fraction of time that there is exactly one bulb working is:

t=\frac{E_2}{E_1+E_2}=\frac{20}{20+50}\\t=\frac{2}{7}=0.2857

There is exactly one bulb working 2/7 or 0.2857 of the time.
