(Ignore income taxes in this problem.) Westland College has a telephone system that is in poor condition. The system either can

be overhauled or replaced with a new system. The following data have been gathered concerning these two alternatives: Present System New System Purchase cost when new $ 150,000 $ 200,000 Accumulated depreciation $ 140,000 - Overhaul cost needed now $ 130,000 - Annual cash operating costs $ 80,000 $ 70,000 Salvage value now $ 60,000 - Salvage value in 8 years $ 52,000 $ 65,000 Working capital required - $ 100,000 Westland College uses a 10% discount rate and the total cost approach to net present value analysis. The working capital required under the new system would be released for use elsewhere at the conclusion of the project. Both alternatives are expected to have a useful life of eight years.
The net present value of overhauling the present system is closest to: Multiple Choice

Answer:

($560,536)

Explanation:

In order to overhaul the present system,  Westland College has to pay for the followings:

- Overhaul cost needed now $ 130,000

- Annual cash operating costs $ 80,000 in 8 years

Westland College uses a 10% discount rate, the NPV of 8 years cash operating costs is $426,794

Then the total cost is $556,794

Answer the following question based on the article "The Mystery of Original Sin: We Don't Know Why God Permitted the Fall, but W
Alexandra [31]

Answer:

D) He wants us to learn that having Him at the center of our lives will always be the best for us no matter how big or small the decisions we must face.

Explanation:

The article exposes that dehumanization is part of the world we're living in today. Marguerite Shuster argues that the world we're living in today is Genesis 3 world.

What's wrong with this world? "As the story goes, Chesterton responded with just two words: "I am." His answer is unlikely to be popular with a generation schooled to cultivate self-esteem, to pursue its passions and chase self-fulfillment first and foremost."

Then Shuster's invitation is to recenter our lives at Him.

You can now sell 40 cars per month at $20,000 per car, and demand is increasing at a rate of 3 cars per month each month. What i
MArishka [77]

Answer:

More than $1500 price per car per month has to be dropped.

Explanation:

Given:

price per car = $20,000

car sale per month = 40

rate of increase in demand = 3

Solution:

Revenue R = Price × Quantity = P * Q

From the above given data

P = 20,000

Q = 40

R = P*Q

dQ/dt = 3

We have to find the rate at which the price is to be dropped before monthly revenue starts to drop.

R = P*Q

dR/dt = (dP/dt)Q + P(dQ/dt)

          = (dP/dt) 40 + 20,000*3 < 0

          = (dP/dt) 40 < 60,000

         = dP/dt < 60000/40

         = dP/dt < 1,500

Hence the price has to be dropped more than $1,500 before monthly revenue starts to drop.

Which of the following statements is true of the scientific method?
nevsk [136]

Answer:

The answer is: C) The scientific method may not reveal a "true" model of the world.

Explanation:

When economists and scientists use the scientific method they are trying to develop models of the world and then test them with data. Past data is used to try to predict future economic behavior. That doesn´t mean that those models are 100% accurate and true, but rather that they might (or not) apply to specific situations.

Microeconomics relies on the use of the scientific method and econometrics, while the scientific method is not applicable in macroeconomics.
