Monique has 2 artificial Christmas trees in her apartment. The taller tree is 1 foot shorter than 5 times the height of the smal

ler tree. If she stacked the shorter tree on top of the taller tree, they would be a sum of 60 inches tall ( feet). Find the height in feet of the taller tree (x) and the shorter tree (y)

Answer:

The height taller tree is 4 foot

The height small tree is 1 foot

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

2 artificial Christmas trees

The taller tree is 1 foot shorter than 5 times the height of the smaller tree

To Find:

Find the height in feet of the taller tree (x) and the shorter tree (y)

Solution:

The sum of height of two artificial Christmas trees = 60 inches

Converting inches into feet,

we know that

1 inch = 0.083foot

then

60 inches = 0.083 X 60

60 inches = 5 foot

Now

Taller tree is 1 foot shorter than 5 times the height of the smaller tree

y = 5x-1---------------------------------(1)

Sum of two artificial Christmas trees = 5 foot

x+ y = 5

x+ (5x-1) = 5

x+ 5x-1 = 5

6x -1 = 5

6x = 5 + 1

6x =6

x = \frac{6}{6}

x=1

Substituting in (1)

y = 5(1)-1

y = 5-1

y =4

What is 4x-4y/2=x+2 in slope intercept form?
Alla [95]

Answer:

The equation would be y = 3/2x - 1

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the answer in slope-intercept form, simply solve for y.

4x-4y/2=x+2 ----> Subtract 4x from both sides

-4y/2=-3x+2 ----> Multiply both sides by 2

-4y = -6x + 4 -----> Divide by -4

y = 3/2x - 1

ZanzabumX [31]

Answer:

See the attached figure for better explanation :

Step-by-step explanation :

1. By the unique line postulate, you can draw only one line segment : BC

Since only one line can be drawn between two distinct points.

2. Using the definition of reflection, reflect BC over l.

To find line segment which reflects BC over l, we will use the definition of reflection.

3. By the definition of reflection, C is the image of itself and A is the image of B.

Definition of reflection says the figure about a line is transformed to form the mirror image. Now, CD is perpendicular bisector of AB so A and B are equidistant from D forming the mirror image of each other.

4. Since reflections preserve length, AC = BC

In Reflection the figure is transformed to form a mirror image, Hence the length will be preserved in case of reflection.

Katie wants to create a rectangular frame for a picture. She has 60 inches of material. If she wants the length to be 3 more tha
Fofino [41]

Answer:

Largest possible length is 21 inches.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Total material available = 60 inches

Length to be 3 more than twice of width.

To find:

Largest possible length = ?

Solution:

As it is rectangular shaped frame.

Let length = l inches and

Width = w inches

As per given condition:

l = 2w+3 ..... (1)

Total frame available = 60 inches.

i.e. it will be the perimeter of the rectangle.

Formula for perimeter of rectangle is given as:

P = 2 \times (Width + Length)

Putting the given values and conditions as per equation (1):

60 = 2 \times (w+ l)\\\Rightarrow 60 = 2 \times (w+ 2w+3)\\\Rightarrow 60 = 2 \times (3w+3)\\\Rightarrow 30 = 3w+3\\\Rightarrow 3w = 27\\\Rightarrow w = 9 \ inch

Putting in equation (1):

l = 2\times 9+3\\\Rightarrow l = 21\ inch

So, the answer is:

Largest possible length is 21 inches.
