A teacher buys 100 pencils to keep in her classroom at the beginning of the school year. She allows the students to borrow penci

ls, but they are not always returned. On average, she loses about 8 pencils a month. Write an equation in slope-intercept form that represents the number of pencils she has left y after a number of x months.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The number of pencils at the beginning of the school year is 100. Since the pencils which she allowed the students to borrow is not usually returned. The rate at which she loses the pencils per month would constant. So the slope of the graph if number of pencils is plotted on the y axis and the months on the x axis,

The slope, m would be - 8 pencils per month because it is reducing

The equation for slope intercept form is expressed as

y = mx + c

Where

c = intercept

To determine c, we would substitute y = 100, x = 0 and m = 8 into the slope intercept equation. Ut becomes

100 = - 8×0 + c

c = 100

The equation becomes

y = - 8x + 100

Find the coordinates of the midpoint of a segment with the given endpoints W(-12, -7), T(-8, -4)
jasenka [17]

Finding the midpoint coordinates of any segment really boils down to finding the midpoints of each individual coordinate.

The x-coordinates of the two points are -12 and -8 - the number halfway between those two is -10, so that'll be the midpoint's x-coordinate. The y-coordinates are -7 and -4 - -5.5 is halfway between these two, so the y-coordinate will be 5.5.

Putting the two together, the midpoint of the segment WT has the coordinates (-10, -5.5).

A photocopy machine can reduce copies to 80% of their original size. By copying an already reduced copy, further reductions can
alukav5142 [94]

<u>Part a)</u> if a page is reduced to 80%, what percent enlargement is needed to return it to its original size?

Let

x---------> the percent enlargement

we know that

the original size is the 100%

so

x*80%=100%

x=(100%/80%)

x=1.25--------> 1.25=(125/100)=125%

therefore

<u>the answer Part a) is</u>

the percent enlargement is 125%

<u>Part b)</u> Estimate the number of times in succession that a page must be copied to make the final copy less than 15% of the size of the original

we know that

A photocopy machine can reduce copies to 80% of their original size

so

Copy N 1

0.80*100%=80%

Copy N 2

0.80*80%=64%

Copy N 3

0.80*64%=51.2%

Copy N 4

0.80*51.2%=40.96%

Copy N 5

0.80*40.96%=32.77%

Copy N 6

0.80*32.77%=26.21%

Copy N 7

0.80*26.21%=20.97%

Copy N 8

0.80*20.97%=16.78%

Copy N 9

0.80*16.78%=13.42%-------------> 13.42% < 15%

therefore

<u>the answer Part b) is</u>

the number of times in succession is 9

Ella’s test grades in her history class are 89, 94, 82, 84, and 98. What score must Ella make on her next test to have a mean te
aksik [14]
Mean is same as average

to find average
add up terms
divided that sum by the number of terms you have
example

mean of x,y,z
x+y+z
3 terms
(x+y+z)/3=mean

so
represent next test score as x
89+94+82+84+98+x
count how many terms ther are (6 terms)

mean is 90
(89+94+82+84+98+x)/6=90
add the like terms
(447+x)/6=90
multiply both sides by 6 to clear fraction
447+x=540
subtract 447 from both sides
x=93

she needs a score of 93 on next test

If y is the circumcenter is angle STU find each measure
snow_tiger [21]

Answer:

Measures are SV=9 units., SY=14 units, YW=\sqrt75units , YW=\sqrt27units

Step-by-step explanation:

Given Y is the circumcenter of ΔSTU. we have to find the measures SV, SY, YW and YX.

As Circumcenter is equidistant from the vertices of triangle and also The circumcenter is the point at which the three perpendicular bisectors of the sides of the triangle meet.

Hence, VY, YW and YX are the perpendicular bisectors on the sides ST, TU and SU.

Given ST=18 units.

As VY is perpendicular bisector implies SV=9 units.

Also in triangle VTY

YT^{2}=VY^{2}+VT^{2}

⇒ 14^{2}=VY^{2}+9^{2}

⇒ VY^{2}=115

As vertices of triangle are equidistant from the circumcenter

⇒ SY=YT=UY=14 units

Hence, SY is 14 units

In ΔUWY, UY^{2}=YW^{2}+UW^{2}

⇒ 14^{2}=YW^2+11^{2}

⇒ YW^2=196-121=75 ⇒ YW=\sqrt75units

In ΔYXU, UY^{2}=YX^{2}+XU^{2}

⇒ 14^{2}=YX^2+13^{2}

⇒ YX^2=196-169=27 ⇒ YW=\sqrt27units

Hence, measures are SV=9 units., SY=14 units, YW=\sqrt75units , YW=\sqrt27units
