In the game of cornhole, when Sasha tossed a bean bag to the edge of the hole, in which the equations of the hole and bean bag's path are x² + y² = 5 and y = 0.5x² + 1.5x - 4, respectively, she could have tossed her bean bag to the points (1, -2) or (2, 1).

To find the points in which she could have tossed her bean bag, we need to intersect the two equations of the function as follows.

<u>The equation for the hole</u>

x^{2} + y^{2} = 5   (1)

<u>The equation for the path of the bean bag</u>

y = 0.5x^{2} + 1.5x - 4    (2)

By entering equation (2) into (1) we have:

x^{2} + (0.5x^{2} + 1.5x - 4)^{2} = 5

x^{2} + 0.25x^{4} + 1.5x^{3} - 4x^{2} + 2.25x^{2} - 12x + 16 = 5

0.25x^{4} + 1.5x^{3} - 0.75x^{2} - 12x + 11 = 0

By solving for <em>x</em>, we have:

x₁ = 1

x₂ = 2

Now, for <em>y</em> we have (eq 2):

  • <u>x₁ = 1</u>

y_{1} = 0.5(1)^{2} + 1.5(1) - 4 = -2

  • <u>x₂ = 2</u>

y_{2} = 0.5(2)^{2} + 1.5(2) - 4 = 1

Therefore, the points are (1, -2) or (2, 1).

Answer:

StartFraction 1 Over 15 EndFraction left-parenthesis 10 h plus 60 right-parenthesis equals StartFraction 1 Over 10 Endfraction left-parenthesis 10 h right-parenthesis

Step-by-step explanation:

The desired equation equates 1/15 of the amount Lindsay earned with 1/10 the amount without the bonus:

StartFraction 1 Over 15 EndFraction left-parenthesis 10 h plus 60 right-parenthesis equals StartFraction 1 Over 10 Endfraction left-parenthesis 10 h right-parenthesis

Identify the key characteristics of the parent fifth-root function f (x) = ^5sqrtx. Include the following: domain, range, interv
Andre45 [30]

Given functin is :

f\left(x\right)=\sqrt[5]{x}

We know that the domain of the expression is all real numbers except where the expression is undefined. In given function, there is no real number that makes the expression undefined. Hence domain is all real numbers.

Domain: (-∞,∞)

Range is the set of y-values obtained by plugging values from domain so the range will also same.

Range: (-∞,∞)

If we increase value of x then y-value will also increase so that means it is an INCREASING function. You can also verify that from graph.

It crosses x and y-axes both at the origin

Hence x-intercept=0 and y-intercept=0

Graph is not symmetric about y-axis hence it can't be EVEN

Graph is not symmetric about origin so it is ODD.

There is  no breaking point in the graph so that means it is a Continuous function.

There is no hoirzontal or vertical or slant line which seems to be appearing to touch the graph at infinity so there is NO asymptote.

END behaviour means how y-changes when x approaches infinity.

From graph we can see that when x-approaches -∞ then y also approaches ∞.

when x-approaches +∞ then y also approaches +∞.

The correlation coefficient for the ages of drivers in a driver safety class and the number of traffic violations they have rece
Doss [256]
A correlation coefficient is always a value in between -1 and 1
The closest a coefficient to -1, the correlation is a strong negative correlation
The closest a coefficient to 1, the correlation is a strong positive correlation
The closest a coefficient to 0, there is no correlation at all

The coefficient -0.61 shows a strong negative correlation
This means that the relationship between the age and the violation is an inverse relationship; as age increases, violation decreases

Given right triangle XYZ, what is the value of tan(60°)?
Svetlanka [38]

we know that

Step 1

in the right triangle XYZ

Applying the Pythagorean Theorem

Find the value of ZY

XY^{2}=XZ^{2} +ZY^{2} \\   ZY^{2}=XY^{2}-XZ^{2}\\ ZY^{2}=42^{2}-21^{2}\\ ZY^{2}=1,323\\ ZY=\sqrt{1,323}\ units

ZY=21\sqrt{3}\ units

Step 2

in the right triangle XYZ

Find tan60°

we know that

tan\ 60=\frac{opposite\ side\ angle\ 60}{adjacent\ side\ angle\ 60}

in this problem

opposite side angle 60 is ZY

adjacent side angle 60 is XZ

so

tan\ 60=\frac{ZY}{XZ} \\ \\ tan\ 60=\frac{21\sqrt{3}}{21}  \\ \\  tan\ 60=\sqrt{3}

therefore

the answer is

\sqrt{3}
