An advertisement for the state fair will be painted on one of four silos along the highway into town. The silos are in the shape

of cylinders. Only the lateral area of the silo will be painted, not the top and bottom. If it costs $1.20 per square foot to paint the sides of the silo, which silo will cost the least to paint?
Recall the formula LA=2 pi rh.
A. Silo A
B. Silo B
C. Silo C
D. Silo D

Answer: Silo D

===============================================

How I got that answer:

r = radius

h = height

LA = lateral surface area of cylinder

LA = 2*pi*r*h

Let's find the lateral surface area of each silo. The smallest lateral surface area will lead to the lowest total cost.

-------------

Silo A

LA = 2*pi*r*h

LA = 2*pi*6*60

LA = 720pi

-------------

Silo B

LA = 2*pi*r*h

LA = 2*pi*8*50

LA = 800pi

-------------

Silo C

LA = 2*pi*r*h

LA = 2*pi*10*34

LA = 680pi

-------------

Silo D

LA = 2*pi*r*h

LA = 2*pi*12*20

LA = 480pi

-------------

If we ignore the "pi" terms for each of the four answers above, we see that 480 is the smallest value. Silo D has the smallest lateral surface area at 480pi square feet.

-------------

Side note: to determine the total cost, you multiply the surface area by the cost per square foot ($1.20)

For example, the total cost to paint silo D is

cost = (surface area)*(price per square foot)

cost = (480*pi)*(1.20)

cost = 1809.557

cost = 1809.56

This section is optional as your teacher isnt requiring you to find the actual costs, but rather just the silo with the least amount of area. You could go the longer route to find each surface area, compute the total cost, and then compare the total costs. You should find that silo D's cost is the lowest.

Answer:

0.54,0.8,0.368

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that according to a survey published by ComPsych Corporation, 54% of all workers read e-mail while they are talking on the phone.

Prob for persons who read email while talking on the phone = 54% = 0.54

Prob for persons who read email while talking on the phone to write to do lists = 0.20

Assuming that these figures are true for all workers, if a worker is randomly selected, the probability that

a. The worker reads e-mail while talking on the phone and writes personal "to-do" lists during meetings.

p =0.54

b. The worker does not write personal "to-do" lists given that he reads e-mail while talking on the phone.

p =1-0.20=0.80

c.The worker does not write personal "to-do" lists and does read e-mail while talking on the phone.

p=(1-0.20)(1-0.54)  = 0.368

Which of the following functions has the greatest y-intercept? f(x) x y −3 −27 −2 8 −1 −1 0 0 1 1 2 8 ,g(x) = 4 sin(4x) − 3
slavikrds [6]
The two given functions are
x:     -3    -2   -1   0   1   2
f(x):  -27   8   -1   0   1    8

g(x) = 4 sin(4x) - 3

The y-intercept occurs when x=0.
Therefore,
f(x) has a y-intercept of 0 (from given tabular data).

g(x) has a y-intercept of
  g(0) = 4*sin(0) - 3
         = 0 - 3
         = -3

Answer:
f(x) has the greatest y-intercept.

Adam is working two summer jobs, making $9 per hour washing cars and $8 per hour walking dogs. Last week Adam earned a total of
Phantasy [73]

Answer:

Washing cars= 4 hours

Walking dogs= 10 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

You want to start by creating equations. So one thing we know is that he makes $9 an hour washing cars(x) and $8 walking dogs(y).

$9x+$8y=$116

The second Equation is based off of the hours worked. We know that he worked 6 hours more walking the dogs than he did washing cars, so we can take x(being the washing hours) and add 6 to it to equal y (the number of dog hours).

y=x+6

Now You plug what y equals into the first equation to solve for x.

9x+8(x+6)=116 Next distribute the 8 to each term.

9x+8(x)+8(6)=116

9x+8x+48=116 Add the like terms together (9x+8x)

17x+48=116 Subtract the 48 from both sides

     -48  -48

17x=68 Now divide by 17 on both sides.

______

17    17

x=4 Finally we can take x and plug it back in to one of the equations in order to solve for y. I'm going to choose the second equation.

y=(4)+6

y=10

50-x^2=0
Move the x^2 to the other side
x^2=50
Now take the square root of both sides
x=+_(50)^1/2 (^1/2 means square root)(+_ is plus or minus. Sorry XD)
Now simplify the square root
X=+_5(2)^1/2
Voila. The answer is C
