If a drop is to be deflected a distance d = 0.350 mm by the time it reaches the end of the deflection plate, what magnitude of c

harge q must be given to the drop? Assume that the density of the ink drop is 1000 kg/m3 , and ignore the effects of gravity.

Answer:

q = 4.87 X 10^ -14 C

Explanation:

As d=0.350 mm

The ink drop will be accelerated by the electric field between the plates:

a = F/m

d = a(D0 / v)^2 / 2 ...... 1

a = qE/m ............... 2

Substituting 2  into 1:

d = (qE/m)(D0 / v)^2 / 2

q = 2mdv^2 / [E(D0)^2]

q = 2(1.00e-11 kg)(3.50e-4 m)(15.0 m/s)^2 / [(7.70e4 N/C)(2.05e-2 m)^2]

q = 4.87e-14 C

Two objects, X and Y, move toward one another and eventually collide. Object X has a mass of 2M and is moving at a speed of 2v0
Sergeu [11.5K]

Answer:

c. The force exerted by X on Y is F to the right, and the force exerted by Yon X is F to the left.

Explanation:

If we take both objects as one single system, during the collision, assuming no external forces acting, the only forces present are the one that object X exerts on object Y, and the force that object Y does on object X.

These two forces, according to Newton's 3rd Law, form an action-reaction pair, and consequently, are equal in magnitude, acting in opposite directions.

As the object X is moving to the right, the force that produces, (F), is in the same direction (on Y), while for object Y, moving to the left, the force that produces (F also in magnitude) is in the same direction (on X), so the right answer is c.

The effect of the forces is different, due to masses are different, according Newton's 2nd Law.

A square conducting loop 8.4 cm on a side is placed in a uniform B-field so that the plane of the loop is perpendicular to the d
arsen [322]

Answer:

Explanation:

area of square loop A = side²

= 8.4² x 10⁻⁴

A = 70.56 x 10⁻⁴ m²

when it is converted into rectangle , length = 14.7  , width = 2.1

area = length x width

= 14.7 x 2.1 x 10⁻⁴

= 30.87 x 10⁻⁴ m²

Let magnetic field be B

Change in flux = magnetic field x change in area

= B x ( 70.56 x 10⁻⁴ - 30.87 x 10⁻⁴ )

= 39.69 x 10⁻⁴ B

rate of change of flux = change in flux / time taken

= 39.69 x 10⁻⁴ B  / 6.5 x 10⁻³

= 6.1 x 10⁻¹ B

emf induced = 6.1 x 10⁻¹ B

6.1 x 10⁻¹ B  = 14.7 ( given )

B = 2.41 x 10

= 24.1 T

B ) magnetic flux is decreasing , so it needs to be increased as per Lenz's law . Hence current induced will be anticlockwise so that additional  magnetic flux is induced out of the page.
