Plastic parts produced by an injection-molding operation are checked for conformance to specifications. Each tool contains 11 ca

vities in which parts are produced, and these parts fall into a conveyor when the press opens. An inspector chooses 1 part(s) from among the 11 at random. Three cavities are affected by a temperature malfunction that results in parts that do not conform to specifications.
(a) what is the probability that the inspector finds exactly one nonconforming part?
(b) what is the probability that the inspector finds at least one nonconforming part?

Answer:

a) 0.27 %                                  b) 0.27%

Explanation:

a) The inspector can choose 1 part from 11 parts in  11C1 ways. These are total number of mutually exclusive events.

Now three cavities are effected by temperature Malfunction that results in the parts that do not conform to specifications. To obtain exactly 1 non conforming part the inspector have to choose from one of the three cavities that are effected by temperature. This can be done in 3C1 ways.

Probability that inspector finds out exactly 1 non conforming part is,

Probability = \frac{3C1}{11C1}

         Probability  =    \frac{\frac{3!}{1!(3-1)!} }{\frac{11!}{1!(11-1)!} }     = 3 / 11

                            =  0.27 %

b)  As the inspector is choosing only 1 part for inspection so the probability to find exactly 1 non conforming part is same as the probability to find at least 1 non conforming part.

    So the probability is 0.27 %.

The procedure for determining the presence of Non-Condensable Gasses in refrigerant contained in an external recovery tank utili
natta225 [31]

Answer:

The procedure for determining the presence of non-condensable gases in refrigerant contained in an external recovery tank utilizes the principle that non-condensable gases increases the pressure of the refrigerant (compared to the saturation pressure).

Explanation:

The existence of non-condensable gases gives rise to an increase in the pressure of the refrigerant, this generates supplementary thermal resistance in the refrigeration circuit, which in turn decreases the efficiency of the system.

A pair of spur gears with 20 degree pressure angle, full-depth, involute teeth transmits 65 hp. The pinion is mounted on a shaft
vfiekz [6]

Answer:

See explaination

Explanation:

a) The pitch circle diameter of pinion in inches is given by

Dp=Np/P

Where

Np= No. of teeth in pinion = 26

P =diametral pitch= 6

Hence

Dp= 26/6 = 4.333 in

Pinion angular speed\omega _{p} =1250 rpm = 130.9 rad/s

Therefore pitch line speed

V=Dp/2\omega _{p} = 4.333/2x130.9

= 283.62 in/s

V= 23.63 ft/s

V=1418 ft/min

b) The pitch circle diameter og gear is given by

Dg= Ng/P= 48/6 = 8 in

The center distance is given by

C=(Dp+Dg)/2

= (4.333+8)/2

C= 6.167 in

c) The torque on the pinion is given by

Tp= P/\omega _{p}

Where

P = transmitted power, =65 hp = 65x550= 35750 lt-lb/s

Tp= 35750/130.9

= 273.1 ft-lb

d) Speed ratio is given as

R=Ng/Np= 48/26 = 1.8461

Hence speed of gear is

\omega _{g}=\frac{\omega _{p}}{R}

= 130.9/1.8461

= 70.9 rad/s

Therefore torque on gear is given as

Tg= P/\omega _{g} = 35750/70.9

= 504.2 ft-lb

e) Assuming transmission eficiency of 100%

Output hp=input hp= 65 hp

f) Tangential force on gear teeth is given by

Fgt= Tg/(Dg/2)

= 504.2x2/8

= 126.05 lb

g) Radial force on ger teeth is given as

Fgr= Fgt tan\phi

Where

\phi is pressure angle = 200

Hence

Fgr= 126.05tan200

= 45.88 lb

h) The normal force on gear teeth is given as

F=Fgt/cos\phi

= 126.05/cos200

= 134.14 lb

Ivan

Answer:

Realistic Group Conflict Theory

Explanation:

Realistic Group Conflict theory is a socio-psychological model of internal conflicts among groups.

These groups may compete for a scarce resources based on reality or perception.

These conflicts may be over political power, capital, or social status, etc.

According to this theory, in the competition, only one group wins over the scarce resources while the other has to lose.

Thus The reality show on the television showing two tribes competing for food and shelter where the success of one is the failure for the other is based on Realistic Group Conflict Theory.

A system consisting of 3 lb of water vapor in a piston–cylinder assembly, initially at 350°F and a volume of 71.7 ft3, is expand
Alla [95]

Answer:

isobaric expansion = 281.09 Btu

isothermal compression= 72 Btu

Explanation:

The first law of thermodynamics is:

Q_{AB}=W_{AB}+deltaU_{AB}

where:

Q=heat transferred

W= work

U=internal energy

W_{AB}=P*(V_{B}-V_{A})

U_{AB}=n*C_{v}(T_{2}-T_{1})

P=pressure, V= volume, T= temperature, n =  moles, Cv= specific heat at constant volume.

In a isobaric process heat transferred is:

Q=P*(V_{B}-V_{A})+n*C_{v}(T_{2}-T_{1})

For an isothermal process (T2-T1 = 0) so

Q=P*(V_{B}-V_{A})= W_{AB}

From the data we know that the energy transferred to the system in the isothermal compression by work was 72 Btu that is the heat transferred to the system.

For the first process

Q=P*(V_{B}-V_{A})+n*C_{v}(T_{2}-T_{1})

we have to properties at the beginning of the process : temperature (350°F) and specific volume (V/mass)

specific-volume=\frac{71.7 ft^{3}}{3Lb}=23.9\frac{ft^{3}}{Lb}

we use this information in the appropriate unit to find the pressure in thermodynamic tables.

T1= 176°C

v1= 1.49 m^3/kg

P=1.37 bar

in the second state we have

P=1.37 bar =137000Pa

v_{2}=\frac{85.38ft^{3}}{3Lb}= 28.46\frac{ft^{3}}{Lb}

with thee properties we check in the thermodynamic tables

T2= 255°C

n=mass/Mw = 3Lb*\frac {1kg}{2.2Lb}*\frac{1000gr}{1kg}*\frac{1mol}{18gr}=75.75 mol

we usually find Cp on tables for water but from the Mayer relation we have:

C_{v}=C_{p}+R

Cp for water vapor is: 33.12 J/mol*K

R=8.314 J/mol*K

Cv= 41.434 J/mol*K

replacing in the equation for Q

Q=137000 Pa*(2.41m^{3}-2.030m^{3})+75.75mol*41.434\frac{ J}{mol*K}*(528.15-449.81 K)=296569J

296569J =281.09 Btu
