A Printed Circuit Board (PCB) machine installs integrated circuits onto a board. Before starting to produce a board, the PCB mac

hine requires a 20 minute setup. Once in production, the PCB machine requires only 0.15 minutes per board.
(Round your answer to 2 decimal places.)

a. Currently, the PCB machine produces 500 boards between setups. Given this operating process, what is the capacity of the PCB machine (in boards per min)? ____ boards per minute (Round your percentage answer to 2 decimal places.)

b. Currently, the PCB machine produces 500 boards between setups. Given this operating process, what is the utilization of the PCB machine? _____ % (Do not round intermediate calculations. Round your final answer to 2 decimal places.)

c. Demand for boards occurs at the rate of 2 boards per minute. What is the smallest batch size such that the PCB machine does not constrain the flow rate through the process? _____ batch size

Answer:

Explanation:

a)

Total time to prosuce 500 boards = 20minute + 0.15*500 = 20+75 = 95minutes

Capacity of the board = Number of boards produced/Time taken to produce the boards = 500/95 = 5.26 boards per minute

b)

Utilization = Production time/(set up time + production time) =

= 75/95 = 0.7894 = 78.94%

c)

2 boards per minute or 1 board per 1/2 minute

Batch size - x

Required cycle time*Batch size = Set up time + production time per board*Bacth size

0.25x = 20 + 0.15x

0.10x = 20

x = 200

Batch size = 200

Consider the following projects, X and Y where the firm can only choose one. Project X costs $600 and has cash flows of $400 in
Maksim231197 [3]

Answer:

Neither any of the projects should be accepted

Explanation:

In this question, we have to use the net present value formula which is shown below:

Net present value = Present value of all years cash flows  - Initial investment

where,

The Present value of cash inflows is calculated by applying the discount rate which is presented below:

For this, we have to first compute the present value factor which is computed by a formula

= 1 ÷ (1 +rate) ∧ number of year

number of year = 0

number of year = 1

Number of year = 2

So,

Rate = 25%

For year 1 = 0.800 (1 ÷ 1.25) ∧ 1

For year 2 = 0.640 (1 ÷ 1.25) ∧ 2

Now, multiply this present value factor with yearly cash inflows

So

For Project A,

The present value of year 1 = $400 × 0.800 = $320

The present value of year 2 = $400 × 0.640 = $256

and the sum of all year cash inflow is $576

So, the Net present value would be equal to

= $576 - $600 = -24

And,

For Project B,

The present value of year 1 = $500 × 0.800 = $400

The present value of year 2 = $275 × 0.640 = $176

and the sum of all year cash inflow is $576

So, the Net present value would be equal to

= $576 - $600 = -24

Since in both the projects, the NPV is negative.

Hence, neither any of the projects should be accepted

"Higher level professions require indepth knowledge, good skill, and special training." Explain this statement with examples.
Greeley [361]

Answer:

True.

Explanation:

Higher level professions are professions occupied by professionals who think strategically and carry out their duties by adhering to the ethical standards that governs their profession. Examples are medical practitioners, engineering, accountant and pilot. All these requires in-depth knowledge , good skill and special training because of the technical nature of the profession.

Having a degree is not enough to deliver on these professions because of their complexities. These professionals must adhere to the ethical standard that governs their profession and also hold themselves out of having the required training, knowledge and experience .

Take for instance a pilot who controls a plane. Asides having the required education, he would undergo special trainings on how to fly planes. He must also have the skills and experience of flying before being certified to fly people because of the risky nature of the profession.

The above example also applies to a doctor. He would undergo trainings depending on his area of specialization and must have knowledge before being certified to work as a doctor. The reason is that he is dealing with lives hence must possess the the required skills and experience.
