Answer: Ideal type

Explanation:

An ideal type is used by sociologist to carry out a sample of an event or an occasion, the emphasis is to stress certain elements common to many cases of a given phenomenon. This is the test the sociologist is about carrying out by the exercise he gave to the students.

Professor Kramer has decided to measure how happy his students are with his teaching this semester. He is teaching two classes t
hoa [83]

Answer:

3. This will lead to a biased sample because the type of students who take Psychology and Law may be different from the type of students who take Introduction to Neuroscience

Explanation:

Professor Kramer wants to measure the level of happiness of his students, and he wants to do so for both his classes. However, he will biased the survey simply because he is considering surveying only the students from one of his classes, who may be very different from the students from the other class.

If Professor Kramer wants to make a unbiased survey, he should either find a way to also apply the survey to the students from the other class, or change the goal of the research to measuring the happiness level of the Psychology and Law class students only.

After 2 hours of a particular shift, 2 defects have already been detected. What is the probability that there will be less than
Nataly [62]

Answer:

The answer is 5/6

Explanation:

This is because, if it takes 2 hours to detect 2 defects, In 24 hours, the total defect to be detected is 24.

The probabilty of less than (Total) of 4 defect =

                     1 - probability of it been 4 (in an entire shift)

  probability of been 4 = no of defect / total defect = 4/24

Therefore,

probability of less than 4 = 1- (4/24) = 5/6

A section of highway is posted with a 55 mph speed limit. In fact, speeds of cars traveling on this section are normally distrib
In-s [12.5K]

Answer:

z=1.28

And if we solve for a we got

a=58 +1.28*5=64.4

So the value of height that separates the bottom 90% of data from the top 10% is 64.4.

Explanation:

Previous concepts

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

The Z-score is "a numerical measurement used in statistics of a value's relationship to the mean (average) of a group of values, measured in terms of standard deviations from the mean".

Solution to the problem

Let X the random variable that represent the velocity of a population, and for this case we know the distribution for X is given by:

X \sim N(58,5)

Where \mu=58 and \sigma=5

For this part we want to find a value a, such that we satisfy this condition:

P(X>a)=0.10   (a)

P(X   (b)

Both conditions are equivalent on this case. We can use the z score again in order to find the value a.

As we can see on the figure attached the z value that satisfy the condition with 0.90 of the area on the left and 0.1 of the area on the right it's z=1.28. On this case P(Z<1.28)=0.9 and P(z>1.28)=0.1

If we use condition (b) from previous we have this:

P(X

P(z

But we know which value of z satisfy the previous equation so then we can do this:

z=1.28

And if we solve for a we got

a=58 +1.28*5=64.4

So the value of height that separates the bottom 90% of data from the top 10% is 64.4.

Kato is out camping with his family, and they decide to start a campfire because of the cold air. After everyone roasts marshmal
son4ous [18]

Answer:

putting out the fire

Explanation:

When the fire is extinguished, all the energy, in the form of heat is prevented from going to it's full capacity. The energy remaining in the coals and wood is saved because the fire that could release this energy is no more.

Having a burning fire releases energy because the bonds that are used to hold the wood together is being broken. Many of the bonds are sequentially broken and this releases energy in the form of heat. Once the bonds are no longer being broken there is no more energy to be released.
