Answer:

a) ( 3 , 6 )

b) y = -2*x / 3 + 7

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

- The four points are:

                        (-9,13), (-3, 9), (3, 6) and (9, 1)

- Three points lie on the same line.

Find:

Which one of the four points does not lie on the same line as the other three?

Solution:

- Compute the slope between each pair of point:

                                 (-9,13), (-3, 9)

                        m_1 = ( 9 - 13 ) / ( -3 + 9 ) = - 2/3

                                 (-9,13), (3, 6)

                        m_2 = ( 6 - 13 ) / ( 3 + 9 ) = - 0.5833

                                 (-9,13), (9, 1)

                        m_3 = ( 1 - 13 ) / ( 9 + 9 ) = - 2/3

- We see that m_1 = m_3 ≠ m_2 . Hence, point ( 3 ,6 ) does not lie on the same line.

- The equation of line is expressed as:

                        y = m*x + C

                        m = -2/3

                        y = -2*x / 3 + C

                        1 = -2*9 / 3 + C ....... ( 9 , 1 )

                        C = 7

- The equation of the line is:

                        y = -2*x / 3 + 7

A metal frame is constructed in the form of an isosceles trapezoid. Each base angle measures 80°, the length of the base is 7 fe
jonny [76]
Height of a trapezoid:
h = 5 · sin 80° = 5 · 0.985 = 4.924
x = 5 · cos 80° = 5 · 0.17365 = 0.868
7 - x = 7 - 0.868 = 6.132
By the Pythagorean theorem:
d² = 6.132² + 4.924²
d² = 37.6 + 24.25
d² = 61.85
d = √61.85
d = 7.86 ≈ 8

Mandy can buy 4 containers of yogurt and 3 boxes of crackers for $9.55. She can buy 2 containers of yogurt and 2 boxes of cracke
Anna11 [10]

Answer:

The cost of a box of crackers is $2.25.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the cost of a containers of yogurt is $x and cost of a box of crackers is $y.

It is given that Mandy can buy 4 containers of yogurt and 3 boxes of crackers for $9.55.

4x+3y=9.55              .... (1)

She can buy 2 containers of yogurt and 2 boxes of crackers for $5.90.

2x+2y=5.90              .... (2)

On solving (1) and (2), using graphing calculator, we get

x=0.7

y=2.25

Therefore the cost of a box of crackers is $2.25.

A pool in the shape of a rectangle has a perimeter of 80feet. The pool is 8 feet less wide than it is long. Find the length and
Lyrx [107]

Answer:

The length and width of the pool = 24 ft and 16 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Let length of pool be l and width of pool be w.

A pool in the shape of a rectangle has a perimeter of 80feet.

Perimeter of pool = 2 x ( l + w ) = 80 feet

That is

       l + w  = 40 ft -----------------------------------eqn 1.

The pool is 8 feet less wide than it is long.

      l = 8 + w

       l - w  = 8 ft -----------------------------------eqn 2.

eqn 1 + eqn 2

        2 l = 48

         l = 24 ft

Substituting

         24 + w = 40

         w = 16 ft

The length and width of the pool = 24 ft and 16 ft

Each year a town holds a winter carnival this year 40% of the attendees were children under the age of 10 if 304 children under
tatuchka [14]

Answer:

760 attendees

Step-by-step explanation:

40% of the attendees is 304. That means you can add 304 to 304 (304 x 2) to get 608. To get the last 20%, divide 304 by 2, because 40(%) divided by 2 is 20(%). The answer to that is 152. Now, add it all up. 608 + 152 = 760.

In conclusion, there were 760 attendees at the carnival.
