The time between arrivals of small aircraft at a county airport is exponentially distributed with a mean of one hour. Round the

answers to 3 decimal places (e.g. 98.765). What is the probability that more than three aircraft arrive within an hour? If 30 separate one-hour intervals are chosen, what Is the probability that no interval contains more than three arrivals? Determine the length of an interval of time (In hours) such that the probability that no arrivals occur during the interval is 0.14.

Answer:

a) 0.019

b) 0.563

c) x = 1.966 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

E(X) = 1

Exponential random variable's probability function is given as

P(X=x) = λ e^(-λ.x)

The cumulative distribution function is given as

P(X ≤ x) = 1 - e^(-λ.x)

a) The time between the arrivals of small aircraft at a county airport that is exponentially distributed.

But the number of planes that land every hour will be obtained using the Poisson distribution formula.

It is the best for discrete systems.

Poisson distribution formula is given as

P(X = x) = (e^-λ)(λˣ)/x!

λ = 1 aircraft per hour.

The probability that more than three aircraft arrive within an hour = P(X > 3)

P(X > 3) = 1 - P(X ≤ 3) = 1 - [P(X=0) + P(X=1) + P(X=2) + P(X=3)]

P(X > 3) = 1 - 0.98101 = 0.01899 = 0.019 to 3 d.p

b) If 30 separate one-hour intervals are chosen, what Is the probability that no interval contains more than three arrivals

Probability of one 1-hour interval not containing more than 3 arrivals = 1 - P(X > 3)

= 1 - 0.01899 = 0.98101

Probability that thirty 1-hour intervals will not contain more than 3 arrivals = (0.98101)³⁰ = 0.5626 = 0.563 to 3 d.p

c) Determine the length of an interval of time (In hours) such that the probability that no arrivals occur during the interval is 0.14

We can now use the cumulative distribution function for exponential random variable for this

P(X ≤ x) = 1 - e^(-λ.x)

P(X > x) = 1 - P(X ≤ x)

P(X > x) = e^(-λ.x)

λ = 1, x = ?,

0.14 = e⁻ˣ

e⁻ˣ = 0.14

In e⁻ˣ = In 0.14 = -1.966

-x = -1.966

x = 1.966 hours

Hope this Helps!!!

The necklace charm shown has two parts, each shaped like a trapezoid with identical dimensions. What is the total area, in squar
pashok25 [27]
The area of the trapezoid can be calculated through the equation,
                               A = (b₁ + b₂)h / 2
where b₁ and b₂ are the bases and h is the height. Substituting the known values from the given,
                              A = (25mm + 32mm)(15 mm) / 2
                               A = 427.5 mm²
Since there are two trapezoids in the necklace, the area calculated is to be multiplied by two to get the total area.
                        total area = (427.5 mm²)(2)
                        <em>total area = 855 mm²</em>

A cosmetics company that makes small cylindrical bars of soap wraps the bars in plastic prior to shipping. Find the surface area
Lelu [443]
We would have two circles of 5cm diameter each, and a rectangle of the length pi*diameter and 2cm, so lets add them:
total = 2circles + rectangle
total = 2(2*pi*(5/2)^2) + pi*diameter*heigth
= 4*pi*(2.5)^2 + pi*5*2
= 109.9
that is the surface area of a bar soap 109.9 cm^2

A new computer has a model number, a part number, and a serial number. The model number is assigned by the manufacturer to ident
kumpel [21]
<span>(serial number, model number)

That's a function mapping each serial number to its model number.

 (part number, serial number)

That's not a function; the same part number is in computers with different serial numbers

</span><span> (model number, part number)
</span><span>
That one's a bit confusing.  Normally a given model would have more than one part number inside so this isn't a function.  But here the description says there's only one part number for each model, so that would be a function.

(model number, serial number)

Not a function, more than one serial number for a given model number.

Ming used the calculations shown to find out how much he would spend on 6 pounds of ground beef if 10 pounds of ground beef cost
Angelina_Jolie [31]

Answer:

He determined pounds per dollar by dividing 10 by 25 but wrote the unit rate as a dollar value.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

\frac{10\ pounds}{\$25} = \frac{10\ pounds}{25} / \frac{\$25}{25} = \frac{0.4}{1}

Unit\ Price = 40\ cents

40\ cents * 6 = \$2.40

Required

Determine Ming's error

Ming's error is from here

\frac{10\ pounds}{\$25} = \frac{10\ pounds}{25} / \frac{\$25}{25} = \frac{0.4}{1}

He calculated the unit rate as pound per dollar.

So, after calculating the unit rate, the unit should be:

Unit\ Rate = 0.4\ pound/\$

But instead, he solved as:

Unit\ Rate = \$0.4/ pound

<em>Hence, (a) is correct</em>

A food distributor is being sued for racial discrimination because 12% of newly hired candidates are not white when 53% of all a
Musya8 [376]

Answer:

Check Explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

A) The null hypothesis would be that the proportion of newly hired candidates that are not white is not significantly different from the proportion of the applicants that are not white & there is no significant evidence that the company's hiring practices are discriminatory.

Mathematically,

H₀: μ₀ = 0.53

And the alternative hypothesis would be that there is a significant difference between the proportion of newly hired candidates that are not white is not significantly different from the proportion of the applicants that are not white. More specifically, that the proportion of newly hired candidates that are not white is significantly less than the proportion of applicants that are not white & there is significant evidence that the company's hiring practices are indeed discriminatory.

Mathematically,

Hₐ: μ₀ < 0.53

B) The two errors that can come up in this hypothesis testing include -

Type I error: We reject the null hypothesis because we obtain that the proportion of newly hired candidates that are not white is significantly less than the proportion of applicants that are not white and conclude that there is indeed significant evidence that the company's hiring practices are discriminatory when in reality, there is no significant difference and hence, no discrimination.

Type II error: We accept the null hypothesis (fail to reject the null hypothesis) because we obtained that there is no significant difference between the proportion of newly hired candidates that are not white & th proportion of applicants that are not white and conclude that there is no discrimination in the company's hiring practices when in reality, there is significant difference in the stated proportions above and significant evidence that there is indeed significant evidence that the company's hiring practices are discriminatory.

C) The power of the test increases as the significance level reduces. This is because t-statistic increases as significance level reduces.

D) The standard error of the mean used in computing the t-score is given as

σₓ = (σ/√n)

It is evident that as the value of n increases, the standard error reduces and this widens the effect of the test, hence, the power of the test increases.

Hope this Helps!!!
