Answer:

Competition policy is part of the new international orthodoxy in economic policy and, at the same time, was viewed in South Africa as a crucial element of economic transformation. This article reviews the role of competition policy in economic development and the experiences of developing countries such as Brazil and South Korea. It then assesses the effects of competition policy in South Africa after 1994, with the main focus being on the performance of the new competition institutions established in 1999. The case of the steel industry is used to assess the approach and impact of the institutions in a concentrated sector that has simultaneously undergone processes of liberalisation and domestic consolidation.

The opening-up of the economy through trade liberalisation has also seen increased concentration in many sectors. This is a result of consolidation, with inefficient firms closing down or being taken over, and of closer focus by companies on their core activities. Economies-of-scale arguments have also been used in several sectors to support mergers and acquisitions.

Consider two perfectly negatively correlated risky securities, K and L. K has an expected rate of return of 13% and a standard d
mihalych1998 [28]

Answer:

risk free rate of return is = 11.37 %

Explanation:

given data

K expected rate of return = 13%

K standard deviation = 19%  = 0.19

L expected rate of return = 10%

L standard deviation = 16% = 0.16

to find out

risk-free portfolio rate of return

solution

first we find here weight of each portfolio

weight of K = \frac{L standard deviation}{K standard deviation+ L standard deviation}      ..................1

weight of K = \frac{0.16}{0.19+0.16}

weight of K = 0.4571 = 45.71%

and

weight of L = 1 - 0.4571

weight of L = 0.5428 = 54.28 %

so that

risk free rate will be here

risk free rate = ( weight of K × K expected rate of return  ) + ( weight of L + L expected rate of return  )    ..........................2

risk free rate = ( 45.71 % × 13 % ) + ( 54.28 % + 10% )

risk free rate = 11.37 %

Galvatron Metals has a bond outstanding with a coupon rate of 6.3 percent and semiannual payments. The bond currently sells for
monitta

Answer:

4.09%

Explanation:

For computing the after cost of debt we have to applied the RATE formula i.e to be shown in the attachment below:

Given that,

Present value = $1,919

Future value or Face value = $2,000

PMT = 2,000 × 6.3% ÷ 2 = $63

NPER = 17 years × 2 = 34 years

The formula is shown below:

= Rate(NPER,PMT,-PV,FV,type)

The present value come in negative

So, after applying the above formula,

1. The pretax cost of debt is 3.35% × 2 = 6.70%

2. And, the after tax cost of debt would be

= Pretax cost of debt × ( 1 - tax rate)

= 6.70% × ( 1 - 0.39)

= 4.09%

Contractionary fiscal policy to prevent real gdp from rising above potential real gdp would cause the inflation rate to be _____
vekshin1

Answer:

Contractionary fiscal policy to prevent real gdp from rising above potential real gdp would cause the inflation rate to be LOWER and real gdp to be LOWER.

Explanation:

A government engages in contractionary fiscal policy when it decreases spending or increases taxes. This is done to lower the economy's inflation rate, but it also decreases aggregate income which will decrease aggregate supply, resulting in a lower real gross domestic product.
